Scott Brown has not yet been contacted by Celtic over what would be a sensational return under Brendan Rodgers.

Football Scotland can reveal that the former club captain who spent 14 years in Glasgow is yet to be sounded out over a move back to where he made his name despite interest in that scenario from higher-ups. Reports emerged yesterday evening suggesting that Dermot Desmond remains hopeful of enticing Rodgers back to the club to replace Ange Postecoglou and that the Northern Irishman would then attempt to bring back Brown should current number two, John Kennedy, join Spurs

It's understood, though, that no contact has been made by the Hoops, nor has Brown been spoken to by Rodgers as he weighs up a return to the club where he won seven trophies from seven as manager.

Brown is believed to be happy at Fleetwood in England's League One working as his own man and, although it would be an interesting proposition for the former Scotland captain, Celtic still hope to keep hold of Kennedy.

That in itself would scupper any move for Broony.

Rodgers is set to have face to face talks with Desmond this week after the billionaire jetted into London earlier today.

The games against City and Bayern were two of our better European performances against top opposition in recent times, IMO. He was handed two pretty * brutal groups let's be honest. Man City and Barca and then Bayern and PSG :giggle1:. When you consider that it's a bit mental how harsh people are on his record.

He also at least won a game in the UCL (I know how desperate that sounds but this is where we are at currently) and was a McGregor miss away from a win against Gladbach. He also beat Zenit at home in the Europa whereas Ange got skelped by a poorer side in Bodo. (Still a good side but not Zenit).

I don't think his European record with us was the worst when you consider some of the players he was using at points and the level of opposition AND the type of football he tried to deploy.

I think with this squad and a bit of investment we could do better.

Prefer to see Broony stay down South and try make a name for himself in management.. seems to be doing a good job at Fleetwood. Does well get him back up the road

Suppose we better come to terms with it’s Rodgers, my main worry is if other teams are down South wanting him then he’ll be wanting control of transfers which is pretty worrying given his history.

Sure we had some brilliant results under him but we were so 1 dimensional and in his last season it was slow possession football scraping out results.

Really hope he takes on some of Ange’s ideas, especially the inverted fullbacks and higher tempo.

I think we are likely to see him have a style closer to his first season for a couple main reasons:

    1. I think the squad now is better suited to it and.
    2. I think we slowed down as a result of the lack of good investment and congestion with fixtures forcing a similar side out most weeks.

If Mark Lawwell can take command with transfers alongside him I honestly think we are onto a winner again.

Personally I'm excited at the prospect. Controversial celtic opinion CSC.

Aye I’m the same would rather he stayed down there and improved.

Also think if Kennedy stays then there’s no need for SB to come back here just now

Aye Rodgers had some tough groups, especially compared to Ange, who couldn't have asked for an easier CL group tbh

The hammerings by Barca and PSG were against unreal teams and the teams Celtic put out aren't good to look at - Ralston at rb with Lustig and Simunovic at CB against PSG. When Celtic lost 7-0 at Barca, Rodgers changed tactic to be more defensive with 5 at the back and we got hammered. Only one example but why I don't believe in changing too much for Europe and instead believing in a system and trying to stick to it.

Navigated the qualifiers twice as well against some tricky opponents.

The game against Bayern was as well as I can ever remember us playing in the champions league tbh. We were extremely unlucky to lose against a top quality side. Forrest roasted Alaba like I’ve never seen before.

Yep we did have some very good performances, In 2 much tougher groups that we had last season. We also had to navigate 3 qualifying rounds to get in (6 games) both seasons I think it was maybe just his first. Both times scoring 5 at home in the play offs which killed the ties at the time (we thought :56: ) but Beer Sheva gave us a real scare and that was a nervy night. Astana away wasn’t great but was never in doubt, just a few minutes of madness.

Getting in was an achievement in itself, something Deila, Lennon (2nd spell) and Ange failed to do so in the qualifiers. Tbf to Ange would’ve needed a miracle with the rebuild at the time and beating AZ in the EL ones was impressive.

With a better squad now and a better budget it’s mental to write of BR in Europe already. Time will tell.

I’m actually quite against BR coming back…

…. but the likelihood of it happening seems to be sending Huns into a rage… so it has its instant pluses..

…. and we can still call him a greasy faced, big toothed rat dwarf… even if he’s winning.

If it is Rodgers I hope the folk that are so vehemently against it can just get over it and get behind him, and not be chomping at the bit to criticise when we don't win our opening games 5 and 6 nil etc.
