Huns are * terrified of Rodgers so I'd bite your hand off to take Rodgers over a Rookie Maresca who only managed 14 games in his managerial career even Rodgers's not my first choice but still he's a brilliant coach.

Dermotts plane just landed but the guy who broke the news yesterday about his flight arriving at 10.40 also confined he’s up for a round of golf. Surely if your working hard to secure a manager then you don’t * off for a round of gold , could Rodger’s deal already be done?

Defensive formations / players suitable to that will cost us points domestically though. Im not saying i disagree. I prefer the all guns blazing type of football Ange and rodgers play. I think we could go far in EL and we wont get far in CL no matter how we play these days.

It's so small time, though. So, OK, every decade or so we might emulate 2013 and get a result against Barcelona and a last-16 place; but it doesn't actually lead anywhere. I want us to be as good as Porto, Benfica and Ajax. They do that by doing exactly what Ange was doing: playing the same system throughout the club, not shopping in the expensive markets, buying players to develop, immediately selling big players who want to move on and then buying younger again, etc. I don't see why we couldn't do that. They have the odd awful year with that model but by and large they are light years ahead of where we are now. I want to continue the path that Ange set us on, even if that means pain in the short term in Europe.

Strachan did 3 times. Lennon managed it, too. Rodgers will trounce the league convincingly but do little in Europe.

Wonder if Rodgers would run away again after a couple of years if he was successful here. I think he probably would, but I'm at the stage now where I'm wondering who wouldn't.

    Not for me.

There was a naivety in the way Ange setup in Europe, that was at times bordering on the extreme. The Real Betis game in particular was a head scratcher, and the Bodo game showed us how an intelligent press should be implemented. Ours was barely coherent at all in comparison.

Not to diminish what Ange accomplished here, but I’m not convinced he would’ve ever gotten us performing in Europe without some drastic adaptations to the way we played. That doesn’t mean you need to abandon your philosophy - you can press, you can pass, and you can look to attack - but you need to do it intelligently.

I know domestic success is the proverbial bread and butter of what we do, but I want to see us make an impact in Europe again - and there’s absolutely no reason we’re uniquely incapable of doing so.

But they don’t play the same system that Ange did, and that’s absolutely crucial.

If you’re going to be absolutely rigidly stuck to one philosophy, then you have to make sure it’s the right one to maximise your chances of getting something out of games where you’re not necessarily going in as heavy favourite.

I have watched this thread for the last week trying to take in everyones views. I know too little to form an opinion on any other candidates other than Brendan Rodgers. I am at the point now I hope it is him. He is a known quantity who I think would galvanise what will be left of the squad after the summer and I think would walk it domestically again, for what time he would be here.

They are in more reputable leagues and can thus command massive fees for players. Secondly, they have a pool of players from ex colonies to choose from, and no work permit system. Celtic is too hamstrung to follow this approach. People want an athletic LB with Taylor's intelligence. Too expensive. But Taylor can do well in a park the bus system for European ties.

One of the rare markets we could do a Benfica in is East Asia, I guess. But playing attacking football in Europe is too expensive.

Aye, awright. :56:You were the one wildly stating that Ange had had these mysterious job offers all throughout the season, and had gallantly turned them down like some white knight. If there’s anyone ‘minimising’ it’s you. Rodgers was an exceptional manager for this club, and if he returns, he will be again, if backed.

I’ve dealt with your point about him being a fan. See my last post. Won’t repeat myself for guys acting the clown.

On the lies he told (or is said to have told), I can only shrug tbh. Managers, like anyone else, can be maverick personalities and/or total egotists. Rodgers definitely has a bit of that about him, but then so does the like of Pep, etc.

Ange literally just a short time ago told the media ‘you’d be surprised how long I’m here’ - maybe he meant he could hardly wait to get out the door? Because that’s the only interpretation that makes sense of that bizarre comment.

But you’re not bringing that up.

This is a weak defeatist mentality.

There’s plenty of evidence that smarter tactics can help to narrow the gap in Europe.

And there is a huge difference between losing by the odd goal against high calibre opposition and getting our * handed to us on a global stage.

Every time we suffer a humiliating pumping in Europe, it is a significant blow to our reputation and also our brand as a club. Having knock on effects to all sorts of things, such as sponsorship deals and which players might consider signing for us.

There is no shame in losing to big clubs with deep pockets compared to us. But it should never be acceptable for us to be getting pumped in Europe, particularly at home in front of our own fans!

Anyone who thinks that is an acceptable standard, needs to give their head a good shake…

Ofc he will. Every manager will leave us if they are successful. That is how it works now as you say, and we need to accept that.

I would say negligent rather than niave. An example of a manager putting his ego before the good of the club. But he got a pass because "in Ange we trust" :39:

Sounds unrealistic. Knutsen is in enough demand not to be joining clubs as part of a coaching team, even temporarily. Rodgers' primary motivation won't be mending fences. If he's coming back, he'll be getting a very attractive financial package.

The support who thought Warburton would be England manager and that Ange ran off scared of Beale don't want us to get Rodgers so he must be a good choice:56:

Why are Leicester considered mediocre and Totenham one of the biggest clubs in England? Not having a go but in the last 20 years honours...

LEICESTER CITY: 1 premier league, 1 FA Cup 1 League Cup.

    SPURS: 1 League Cup.

I would confidently say Spurs will never win the Premier league.. the very definition of mediocre.no?
