Is it just me or are they having a subtle dig by getting his belly in profile in the thumbnail? :giggle1:

Think the one lesson from all this is to stop taking players for granted that are dedicated to the club and have rejected moves elsewhere to stay here long term. Not sure if guys like McGregor and Forrest have had chances to move and stuck around but if they have, maybe they should be the type of guys to get the adulation over players and managers that decide to leave after a season or two.

If we ever see anyone like that again that is.

Time for a John Kennedy song :lingua:

The board have likely known for weeks his intentions to enter discussions with Spurs (and probably that his agent already had, DD isn't daft) I'd wager they knew it before Ange was pictured meeting with DD.

Regardless, a 'top 6' level team might have been the only opportunity in England he would have left us for, as there's no evidence that he would have traded UCL football with Celtic for a Palace, Wolves or Nottingham Forest - Spurs are on a different level to all of them.

So before any contract is actually agreed and signed, you're not gonna come out (days before a cup final!) and say 'see ya boys, I'm off!'. It'd wouldn't benefit the individual, the team or the club. I just don't see how you can do that unless he knew 100% that he wasn't going to be Celtic manager next season irrespective of whether he got the Spurs job or not.

I'll miss George. His stories were long, random as * and pointless but I still enjoyed them. Good luck @George Theodorou enjoy spurs.

Negotiations were done within 48 hrs, that speaks for itself.

As Ange stood in the dugout at Hampden he was already the spurs manager.

Aaah okay, so the fact that English media said it was a done deal weeks ago and even gave the timeline which transpired to be correct is just a big coincidence?

Don't be naive, this deal was done behind Celtic's back long before the Scottish Cup Final - the only thing that was left to do was arrange a compensation figure.

Two days after winning the 2012 A-League grand final with Brisbane Roar, Ange Postecoglou and his players were feted with a ticker-tape parade through the city.

Thousands of fans lined the streets to celebrate their second title in a row – but they all had knots in their stomachs because rumours were rife that he was about to leave the club.

Postecoglou sat in a sports car with skipper Matt Smith and the team’s precious silverware on a melancholy drive down the Queen Street Mall and then to a public reception at King George Square.

“Why not? Let’s make it three,” Postecoglou told the crowd.

Then they returned to the club’s headquarters at Ballymore and he broke the news they were all dreading: he was leaving.

Some players had already guessed as much by his body language on the day. Only two of his assistants, Rado Vidosic and Ken Stead, knew it was coming for sure because he’d given them the heads up.

Two days later, he was unveiled as Melbourne Victory coach, and by the end of the week he’d spilled his guts in a newspaper column about how he’d wrestled with his emotions in the build-up to the grand final, and how hard it was to keep his cards close to his chest.

It seems he has form, almost eerie how similarly it played out on Saturday. Starting to feel like the end of The Usual Suspects when you find out Kevin Spacey was Keyser Soze all along :asshole2::56:

48 hours that he was supposedly taking to enjoy time with his family too, before his holiday on Tuesday.

What do you know? Announcement on Tuesday morning just in time for the flight :76:

It's been confirmed by McGrory1888 that they did not and were blindsided. It was all done behind Celtics back (something he has form for) .

    * *, the man has serious form. If it wasn't spurs it would have been another prem team over the next 6 months.

I'll also miss Big @George Theodorou and his mad stories. Haven't seen him or @AussieGreek for awhile though, so maybe Ange tipped off the two Greek boys and they've been laying the groundwork for his arrival on Spurs forum for the past month or so. :giggle1:

I said it a few days ago, that I followed Ange here and will definitely take an interest in Spurs results and watch them when I can, but I'm not going off to join a forum of London * cab drivers. I'm more interested in how we get on next season, who comes in as manager, how the squad looks under them. Scottish fitbaw for the win!

    I like this bit

Ange: It was tough to say goodbye to the players and staff, so I kept my message to them as short as possible. No words could explain my feelings. Obviously, I understand that some were disappointed in my decision but, ultimately, I felt it was the right time for me to move on.

"I kept my message to them as short as possible" I'm sure they really appreciated that Ange * :87:

I wonder if he kept it "as short as possible" on Saturday before scurrying off and leaving Cal to clean up his mess. Mans got no spine.

I was a fool for thinking Ange would see the dangers of the Tottenham job. He obviously thinks he can deal with Levy, the players, or a bad initial streak. His choice. I know we will be worse off for having lost his scouting ability.

Two big negatives of his departure:

From the viewpoint of the club itself: we now run the risk of the board refusing to back a proven name out of fear he will only last 2 years. Rumors of Maresca have soured my mood. Drastically. It's really sad, because Ange left us in a healthy position.

From a personal perspective, I love the East Asian bubble that exists at Celtic. My fear is that it will disintegrate without the man who helped form it. Japanese and Korean footballers are something very exciting to me, because how they behave and play.

Oh, well. Hope in Oliver Glasner dies when he gets picked up by some club, and we're left with Maresca.:90:
