The job now is totally different to the job two years ago. I’d have taken Maresca then but now, underwhelming

Muscat's my first choice. His record in Australia and Japan are better than Ange and his football style is similar to Ange.

    Yeah you did mate.

You were suggesting it was all about players, and I disagreed with you and said it wasn’t that simple.

That the tactics and shape were too open and loose, and signing a defensive midfielder wouldn’t solve that issue on its own. And I haven’t changed my opinion one bit on that.

    That worries me too.

You need a certain type of personality to succeed at a club like Celtic and I'm really not sure he has it.

Our three most successful and coveted managers this century have all had big personalities. MON, Rodgers and Ange.

CELTIC are set to bank a £5million cheque from Spurs for boss Ange Postecoglou.

And SunSport understands Man City coach Enzo Maresca is one of the leading contenders to replace him.

Postecoglou was last night finalising his Premier League move the Hoops granted him official permission to hold talks.

He has agreed personal terms with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and is set to sign a two-year deal, with a further year option.

Postecoglou was on a 12-month rolling contract at Parkhead but it's understood the London giants have had to fork out £5m compensation.

An announcement is expected in the next 24 hours, with City assistant coach Maresca emerging as a serious candidate to replace him.

SunSport understands the 43-year-old Italian impressed Celtic supremo Dermot Desmond when he was interviewed for the job in 2021.

He eventually missed out to Postecoglou but the club have kept close tabs on his career since then and remain admirers.

Maresca went on to have a short-lived spell as Parma boss before rejoining City as a key member of Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff.

He is currently preparing for Saturday’s Champions League final but Celtic could seek fresh talks after that as they ramp up the managerial hunt.

Maresca recently knocked back interest from Southampton - but is thought to be keen on to strike out on his own again if the right offer arrives.

Guardiola values his contribution at City but recently claimed he will make an “extraordinary manager” and wouldn’t stand in his way.

Former Juventus star Maresca has also had spells as an assistant at West Ham and Sevilla - but lacks experience as a boss.

Prior to his Parma spell, which lasted just six months, he was in charge of Man City's under-23 team.

However, he has coached at the highest level at the Etihad this season and his style would be similar to Postecoglou’s attacking approach.

Celtic chiefs are expected to speak to several candidates - with David Moyes, Jesse Marsch and Graham Potter also among the bookies’ favourites.

But SunSport understands Brendan Rodgers is not interested in a return to Celtic at this point in his career.

Hoops chief executive Michael Nicholson will lead the hunt for the new boss - but Desmond will have the final say.

The Irishman will be heavily involved in discussions with all candidates as applications flood in from across the globe.

But with no European qualifiers this summer, Celtic do have more time to make their decision.

The Hoops would also prefer some continuity on the coaching staff and will fight to keep No2 John Kennedy from Spurs.

But Postecoglou could return for the long-serving Parkhead coach down the line if a deal cannot be reached in the coming days.

I'd certainly be more willing to take a punt on him than Maresca.

Neither is Maresca if Parma is anything to go by.

Knutsen probably still my first choice.
Similar style but as we seen in Europe has a more pragmatic approach

Gerardo Seoane would be an interesting option.

Aye everything was impressive until he went to Chelsea. I always worry that being at a club you're expected to win every game brings more pressure than anything else. Some managers thrive being able to play a style of football with the added bonus of losing games being more acceptable.

I like the fact he's done it abroad though and wouldn't be a guy to always be looking down in England for players. Obviously a guy that's looking to improve himself and thinks outside the box.

I’ve read it back, I said we were a couple of players short. Defensive mid being one of them. Not being able to play our centre half pairing was another major issue, and our inability to be clinical in both boxes. We also lost our captain to injury in the third game.

That £5m should be used to throw at whoever the board feel is the right person for the job. Need to be aiming high here.

Maresca is a number two, he's not a manager. Underwhelming if he's our man.

The big difference is Ange had over twenty years managerial experience, and had succeeded everywhere he had been - people just questioned the level of that success, but you could still see he had something about him.

Maresca failed at Parma in Serie B despite having a good squad at that level, and other than that, has purely been an assistant. Could he be a great coach? Sure. But that doesn’t mean he is qualified for the Celtic manager job.
