Pundits generally accept there are certain levels of clubs.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
For example Madrid, Man Utd and Milan are described as the top tier, basically the elite.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
I was wondering were you think Celtic fit, in the grand scheme of things, at this time?<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Which clubs are at our level, basically who are we competing with in terms of stature, players, and finances to name just a few attributes.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
I was wondering were you think Celtic fit, in the grand scheme of things, at this time?

We all see ourselves as an elite club, but that is not the reality. So realistic voting please.:50:

    Edit for more clarity.<o:p></o:p>

Stiil underdogs to most second tier clubs just yet. Not saying we cannae beat them on a good day, just that we're not dazzling yet. I think we can breal into 2nd tier soon. And stay there.

To be honest the lines are too blurry between the way you have catagorised the teams.
To me its impossible to make a clear distinction between the teams you have for the "CPL 3rd Tier" and "UEFA 1st Tier".

    Say's who?

There is more to a football club than how good their squad is at any given time.

We were the first Northern European club to win the European Cup, achieved with a group of boys born within a stones throw of each other - something which we will never see the likes of again.

Our fan-base is enormous worldwide, our fans are held in the highest regard for their behaviour, Celtic Park is widely accepted as the best arena to play football on a European night for its electric atmosphere and if it weren't for our geographical location we'd be every bit as good as the 'elite' you speak of.

I don't think you can dis-regard our stature within football just because we can't compete for signatures with the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid. There's far, far more to the question of where our standing in the game is than the squad we currently have assembled.

The clubs are meant as a pointer no more than that.

Concentrate on the levels more than the actual clubs.

Your opinion Hammer just like all other posters are entitled.

I am not asking about our history Hammer, I am asking were we are currently.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

Do you truly believe we are an elite club?<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
I am not dis-regarding the stature of our club at all, our fan base, Our history and our past succeses is what makes us the club we are. It is just a reality that at this moment we are not amongst the elite, in terms of over all stature.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
It is purely a romantic notion to regard us as an elite club (at this time), if we are so delusional as to think we are an elite club then we have nothing to strive for.<o:p></o:p>

True. Real Madrid can only ever go down and the times they do its an uproar.

They ARE elite. We can strive, but the clout of the club does not match theirs.

Fans is another matter. In THAT sense we ARE elite. RM are fickle, like most Spanish fans of big clubs.

i honestly think that if we were based in england then everyone would take it as read that we were an elite club, however as we are not then i have got to say that at this moment in time we are probarly a second tier club, although in my eyes we are easily up there with the elite in terms of size, history , fanbase etc...
i agree with hammer that there is alot more to a football club than how good the squad is at a particular time.......

I've gone for third tier - purely on finances and what type of player we can attract. I do agree with other posts here though that we can compete with some first tier clubs on fan base, history, stadia etc etc.

I would add I see us at the top of the third tier.

    3rd tier.
Because of our magnificent history, fans, past players etc we are elite in our own heads. In mine anyway.
Until we can turn over the same money as the top teams and hopefully find another Jock Stein to guide us I doubt if we will progress further than the 3rd tier.
Meanwhile I for one will keep dreaming and enjoying.

You just asked for my opinion then disregarded it as a romantic notion.

What do you want to hear, my genuine opinion or the one that ponders to your own personal belief?

In my opinion the team i support is an elite club, that has nothing to do with the imaginary tiers you're trying to establish. The reasons being the one's i stated in the post above.

If you're asking where we are on the football field at this current time then it's fairly simple, we're on the third tier of the Champions League.

Good idea for a poll. I see us as mid-second tier. We have progressed in recent seasons from the third tier. The way that money runs football now, we will never be top tier, even if we were to win the European Cup. I base this statement on the fact Porto and Monaco contested the final in '04 and I still wouldn't have them in the top bracket. A sustained challenge, year in, year out would alter my view, but not until then.

had to be honest and go for third tier but i dont think we're too far off making it into the second. if we get to the last 8 of the CL this season i'd say we're second tier

The idea of this poll Hammer mate is at this time, not anything that has gone before. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
First of all it’s not imaginary to speak in tiers, it is an established way people describe certain clubs. I.e. EPL clubs their are top, middle and bottom tiers as they are described. Even managers like David Moyes and MON describe their ambition to get in amongst the top tier of the EPL.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
My question was simple were do you think we are at this time? I am not saying you have to agree mate, I just don’t think you understood the question properly.
    <o:p></o:p>
From your last paragraph it seems you now understand it better.:50:<o:p></o:p>
