I'd call it more of a closed shop than the mens tournament but the reality is only really Spain, England, France and Germany have high level women's leagues so it's understandable as to why.

If they * the Celtic manager in the back of the head, they would certainly throw the game.
Waited until the last minute of injury time to chuck it.
    Sleekit *.

Anyone got the video of the Celtic end cheering the huns disallowed goal?

I'm still laughing at how bad that was :56:

At least we're not those mutants who'd rather celebrate another teams results than care about their own.

    New level of obsessed.

Celtic FC Women’s manager Fran Alonso experienced a rollercoaster of emotions at Paradise this afternoon (Sunday) as his team came so close to securing the club's first ever league title, only to see it cruelly snatched from their grasp with only minutes of the season remaining.

But despite the disappointment of losing out on the SWPL title, the Hoops boss praised his players for their efforts, not only in beating Hearts 2-0 today in front of a record-breaking crowd, but throughout the whole campaign.

The league title appeared to be heading the Hoops’ way, before a late Glasgow City goal handed them the trophy in dramatic fashion.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, Alonso said: “I am extremely proud of my players, and of all the fans – they are the best supporters in the world!

“We have got five injuries for players who would easily be in the starting eleven, but the players who played today stepped up.

“It was a fantastic game, especially with all the pressure and against a very well-organised team. They were also fresh because they rested so many players in the previous game.

'We totally controlled the game, the girls stepped up on the big occasion and I am just absolutely devastated for them and for the fans.'

“Especially with the way it all happened. Football can sometimes be cruel and I think today it was the cruellest it can be.

“Unfortunately it just didn’t happen, and we have to settle for second place. I am still extremely proud of my players!

“The people who came here today would have enjoyed the whole game. It’s only at the end that we had a disappointing moment.

“We have to stand up, we have to keep fighting and we have a trophy that we want to go and win next weekend.”

Although there is bound to be frustration and disappointment in the immediate aftermath of the final day of the campaign, on reflection it has been a fantastic season for the Ghirls.

Three points at Celtic Park today secured UEFA Champions League football, and the Hoops maintained their title challenge until the last few minutes of the last game of the season.

And Fran Alonso believes the squad will come back even stronger and go again next season.

“In terms of the league it has been our best season ever,” he said. “We have never been that close.

“If you were to look back, we maybe could have been luckier with some decisions in key games.

“That is part of football, though. Sometimes you are given some things, or they go against you, but overall, I think we have been superb.

“We have played great football all season, and it is just in the last three minutes of the season that it goes away, which is very hard to take.

'Five minutes before, we were there. I couldn’t be any more proud of this group of players.'

“Hopefully we can give them that to celebrate next year.”

The Celts don’t have to wait too long for another opportunity to lift silverware, however, as they have a Scottish Cup final to look forward to next Sunday (May 28) when they take on Rangers at Hampden.

Fran Alonso said: “We always know we have the biggest heart, passion and enthusiasm going into these big games, like next weekend.

“We have fallen many times before in the three years we have been together, and we always stand up from disappointment. We come back even stronger. They are warriors and that is what they do.

“It is obviously hard to take this one, but I'm sure we are going to be at our very best on Sunday to try to give ours fans a trophy.”
