With the home grown player issue, if may come down to a choice between Welsh and Scales.
As both are "low dollar" could just loan out Welsh next season, just to get him game time and keep Scales.

Liam gets it, he knows what it means to play for Celtic, and play against Rangers. I thought it was a bad move at the time, loaning him out and going for an unknown quantity in Bernabei for £3.5M, which has turned out to be an expensive mistake.

The fact Scales is versatile and can play both CB and LB is very handy. I would be inclined to bring him back into the first team squad this summer and give him another chance to nail down a position.

Promote Matthew Anderson to the first team as well, and we might not need to sign another LB then, and we could focus on other areas of the team that need upgraded.

 

One bad game by the current squad does not mean Scales is the answer for us. He's done alright for Aberdeen, but he's not the answer for us.

 

He wasn't ready for us when he came in, or when we loaned him this year, and he's probably not gonna be ready for us next year, no matter how he did this year.

Remember that we recruited him straight out of college essentially (half season in Ireland later, if I remember correctly). Having him on the books but out playing every week is the right decision, and we should definitely have him back for preseason for assessment - if he's progressed and has potential we should extend/re-loan and if not sell him on. Too early to make a call just yet

 

Scales isn't good enough for us but if it was him that played our last couple of games at the huns and mini huns, he'd have been slaughtered..

Scales is slow but actually seems more mobile than Kobayashi..

We need much better than either of them..

You seem to have forgotten he looked a lost puppy out there, getting in the way because he didn’t know his assignments, constantly out of position or not knowing how to rotate positions.

From what I’ve seen at Aberdeen, he’s definitely not the answer, is still too raw making the same mistakes.

Taylor was the exact same for the first few months of Ange being here but we persisted with him and he eventually grew into the role asked of him.

I’m not suggesting we do the same with Scales as I think he’d only ever be decent back up at best anyway. If we are going to sign another left back it would ideally be someone tailor made for the style of football that we play. How easy that’ll be to find I don’t know.
