Worst I’ve seen him in a long time, so negative and backwards. Not once did he turn and make a run to break the press, safe option all the time and * it for their 3rd.

Pfft, I'm off to the jukebox thread, reaction to losing a pointless game is stupid, none of us like it but level out, we have been dominant this season

He’s been man marked in every game since beale came in, it was the same with them under gerrard trying to bottleneck us playing into midfield and killing any attacks, what I don’t get is why after 5 games in a row of this and the willingness to play reserves did we not line up with a double pivot today

he's been nullified by them for the last 3 or 4 games yet we've done nothing to change it, this is ridiculous now.

Actually a good point. They've man marked him to * last few games, and Ange is yet to figure out a way around it.

Way off it today. Wasn't allowed to dictate midfield all day.

We have been but it's not just about this one game when it comes to mcgregor as its clear they've nullified him quite well past few games now. That's a concern moving forward, tactically.

He’s obviously a very good player, arguably our best, but we won’t do anything in Europe with him as the anchor point in midfield, imo.

Every Celtic side I can think of that’s done anything noticeable in Europe in the modern era has had an out and out defensive midfielder. Guys like Lambert, Lennon, Wanyama, Robson etc.

He's not been at his usual standard for a while now still been good but not as good as he usually is but in fairness he plays about 3000 games per season

    Agreed.

I think it’s important to not overdo the significance of the result, but there’s no doubt that they’ve nullified McGregor on a few occasions now.

The result isn't significant but there's a lot we can learn from it that could be significant, moving forward. The past few games have been tight. The important thing is we won the ones that mattered and i think we all are realistic to lnow the days of regular 5-0 skuddings against them are gone. But there's improvement to be had

We should be playing Iwata as the CDM for the last 4 games, with McGregor further forward.

He's our best player, and good enough at CDM domestically, but for Europe (and now the huns) we need a proper CDM in there

Callum McGregor says Celtic were “miles off” their usual level as they suffered their heaviest defeat of the Ange Postecoglou era.

The Hoops were soundly beaten by Old Firm rivals Rangers at Ibrox on Sunday in the final derby day of a season.

Despite an outstanding season, and a eighth domestic treble only win away, the newly crowned Scottish champions will be hurting after losing 3-0 to their city rivals.

Goals from Todd Cantwell, John Souttar and Fashion Sakala mean Michael Beale recorded his first win in the derby since taking over from Giovanni van Bronckhorst at the end of last year.

And the Celtic captain admitted they will have “take our medicine” it was a major off day for his men.

He said: “We were miles off our usual level, and that’s what happens, you’ll lose this kind of game if you are not at the races.

“We gave ourselves a lot to do, they scored at important times of the game and that took the game away from us.

But we have to take our medicine and admit we were poor, we didn’t deserve anything from the game and we have to accept that.

“We just didn’t perform, we weren’t at the level that we normally are and if you turn up and perform like that then you don’t deserve anything out the game.

“I think home advantage in this fixture always plays a part, especially when they score early, it gives them a lift, it gives the crowd a lift and we made it difficult for ourselves. At times we have been able to come back from that I don’t think there is much else to say other than we had a bad day, we didn’t perform to our usual level and the defeat is a result of that.”

Agreed, cantell was right up in his face and he couldn't get a hold of the ball, we need others to step up when CMcG is being coverred. To call him overrated (not you I don't hink but others) is ridiculous. If we see this next season I'll be concerned but this was dead rubber and not worth overthinking

Can’t be perfect, he will be unhappy with his performance, and step up again next game.

Ange will need to be smarter with his tactics next season if this is how Beale is going to continue to play against us. Our whole system revolvs around Cal in the pivot, take him out through close man marking our midfield can't function. In a game like today we can't then relay on our wingers to get balls in because Beranbei was having a nightmare and Jota wasn't much better. We were better down the right but Abada is just back from injury and imo shouldn't have started both him and Ralston are rusty. Was a mix of things that did for us today, one or two we could deal with but it was a pile on of issues.
