Nah, he impressed Ange in training and was good and reliable enough to be relied upon from day dot. Again, the opposite of MJ.

He has clear talent but you have to cut your losses at one point and this is that point. For him and for Celtic.

He has made Liga team of the week btw.

Ange has been quite honest about what he thinks of MJ and he is a smart man who understands players situations far better than us fans. You do not send a player who you see has having exceeded all his chances to a good team in a very strong league and refuse said team the option to buy if you see the player as being a loss that needs to be cut. Ange made sure that the club found MJ a very good loan move to a team where he was needed and would be able to develop and work on his skills. He knew he would see more of what the lad was capable of that way than have him sat on our bench for most of the season.

He'll be back with us from pre-season and it will go from there. Could be Mikey having tasted life away from the Glasgow cauldron may not want to stay with us.

He made the team of the week therefore he’s good enough for Celtic?

Malik Tillman made the TOTY in this country and he wouldn’t make our bench. A similarly pointless suggestion.

Hopefully that's the case and if not, hopefully we punt him regardless.

He's not good enough and physically can't hack it.

I think everyone wants youth to progress but we can't keep them on the books forever.

3 goals and 5 assists in 28 games over there. Hardly a return that screams being given yet another chance here.

He looked a real talent a few years ago but if he comes back here and does anything I’ll be stunned.

Last I checked this was the Michael Johnston thread where we post news about Michael Johnston, I think him making Team of the Week qualifies as news.

It's up to Ange to decide if he is good enough for Celtic not your or me.

You can discuss as much as you like buy at the end of the day an unescapable fact is that Ange made sure MJ got a very good loan move and that the loan club were denied the option to buy. That's not a player he wants punted.

Ange wants him back for pre season then he will make his mind up.

The minute it was revealed he was going to a good Portuguese Liga side and they weren't being given an option to buy should have been the clue for his detractors that Ange still sees a future here for the lad. It was just about him siezing the opportunity being given to him.

    He'll be another Jack Hendry.

Bizarrely does well for himself to a decent level in a different league, bit for one reason or another, just can't make it here because of the pressure and weight that comes with the demand for constant, unwavering success

2 of those goals were against a team in the third tier. So only 1 goal in the league and 4 assists.
    This season our wingers got
Haksabanovic Goals 5 Assists 2 in 23 games.
Maeda Goals 8 Assists 5 in 32 games, and he's got more against top flight teams in the cups.
Jota Goals 11, Assists 10 in 30 games, he's also scored against the Hun in a semi final and 2 goals in the Champions League.
Abada Goals 10, Assists 5 in 30 games.
Forrest Goals 4, Assists 2 in 14 games.

Where do you fit Johnston in? As 5th choice winger, the only winger above I see him replacing is Forrest.
I also think people are getting a bit over excited by him being a full international. He switched allegiance because he couldn't get in the Scotland side, this isn't the Ireland team of 10 years ago.

He definitely gets a game ahead of Forrest imo.

Let's not forget the national quota needed for Europe, regardless of his international side, hes still a Celtic raised scot.

Also, if indeed there was no clause to buy, it means Ange has certainly saw "something".
Let the big fella assess, I think he's earned the benefit of the doubt at this stage.

If Ange fancies him, he'll have a role to play next year, if he doesn't, he'll be punted. Simple.

I think his future may be linked to Welsh bizarrely. We have 4 club trained spaces in our Euro squad, Forrest McGregor and Ralston will all definitely be here next year so leaves one to fill. If Welsh is happy to hang around then, I think we may sell Johnston if someone wants to buy him.

However, if Welsh decided it’s time to move on then I think we may keep Johnston at least until January.

I don’t think he will suddenly burst into our team as a first team regular but if we are away from home in the CL Wednesday then playing in the league on Saturday it shouldn’t be impossibly for Johnston to make a contribution in the domestic game of either wing which given our other options would likely be his role in the team.

The Vitoria president confirmed they asked for and tried hard to get an option to buy included in the deal but Celtic wouldn't budge on the matter.

    I doubt it.
Johnson has legs made of matchsticks. His time is over here.
We can't stop the progress of Vata and other good young prospects.
