He’s a more consistent defender but just pick a VVD game at us in Scotland and just watch it. We all knew. VVD would go onto the career he’s had at that time mate.

He was * insane. He was a level above everything especially next to Denayer. Defensively constancy wise CCV has that edge. Everything else VVD is so far ahead.

And that’s no shame to CCV. For 4 year or so there VVD was by far the best defender in the world.

    Just can't get enough
If he was a few inches taller and could ping a diagonal he'd be getting headhunted by the elite clubs. As a straight up defender he's one of the best we've had in my lifetime. Juggernaut of a man.

The heights more a Premiership thing tbf. Italy, La Liga, Bundesliga are more about ability.

The other thing is, he can ping a diagonal, we just never let him do it outwith the odd time. Everytime I’ve seen him attempt it it’s been a peach though.

I think recency bias is definitely playing a part when folk compare CCV to Van Dijk. As much as I love CCV and he's never had a performance less than 7/10 for us, Van Dijk was just different. We were absolutely * robbed by Southampton when we sold him.

Tbf alot of folk said the same about Lisandro Martinez when he went to Man Utd, height isnt as important in the game these days for defenders.

The sell on fee with Liverpool it ended up being about £20m all in.

    We were still robbed.

I dont think it is recency bias. Plus CCV doesn't seem like a huffy * the way VVD was either

Take a second to imagine a CCV/Mooy joint post match interview.

We’ve known for a while [that Carter-Vickers would have to go under the knife]. But what an exceptional player. What a top player. What a top professional. I love him. I love him. He deserves to be pain free. You do want him back as quickly as possible but he’s a person. He’s not just a great centre-half. He’s a person who’s been gritting his teeth and sticking his boots on for us. As a team and a club, we appreciate that. We’ve had to keep this under wraps. That’s the nature of the game so it’s nice that the manager has been able to say that.”

The hope is that he will now be able to complete his rehabilitation by the start of the new campaign, while his understudies help the side over the line this season. “Cam has been exceptional for us this season and whenever he’s ready, he’s ready,” said Hart. “But Yuki [Kobayashi]i, [Stephen] Welshy are top centre-halves. They’ll be ready to fill his shoes.”

Aye just read it, reads to me like he is saying whatever happens with him for the rest of the season as he goes on to say he wants him back as quickly as possible.

You do want him back as quickly as possible
