Neil Lennon is baffled at the 'terrible' treatment that was directed at Peter Lawwell and Dermot Desmond after the failed 10IAR bid.

The Celtic hero resigned as boss of the club in February 2021 under a cloud, ending his second stint as Parkhead boss with Rangers charging towards a 55th league title and an unbeaten league season. Lennon came under fire that season from ex-players and teammates of his, particularly ignited by the infamous mid-season Dubai trip that caused a subsequent storm.

Despite all of the criticism, Lennon left the club as boss for a second time with another five trophies in the bag for Celtic under the stewardship of Peter Lawwell, then-chief executive of the Hoops and Dermot Desmond, the club's majority shareholder, who both have oversaw huge successes with Celtic across many years.

But Lennon can't believe that despite them helping Celtic win trebles and titles galore, both Lawwell and Desmond continued to be criticised publicly, especially at the end of the 2020/21 campaign and even in the years leading up to that.

Asked on PLZ Soccer about his relationship with Lawwell and Desmond after leaving Celtic in 2021, he said: "Brilliant with Dermot, Peter. Peter went through the mill as well. I felt he was treated terrible. It was a real difficult time for Peter, the criticism he was getting.

"Listen, he was getting criticism when we were winning seven and eight and Dermot was getting criticism when we were winning all these trophies - Trebles, Treble Trebles, Quadruple Treble, long unbeaten cup run.

You get to a point thinking 'what more can they do to satisfy people?'. I think there was a lot of anxiety amongst the supporters not being able to go to the games as well and when you look back on that, when you look at what some of the players went through as well, it becomes more and more understandable because they're human beings at the end of the day.

He’s right in one aspect I believe he himself could t cope with covid lockdown and it affected his coaching so in effect he was part of the problem

Honestly thought a couple of years later I'd let it slide, and have a good view of him again. Nah, he's no Celtic man, he's a self serving man. Can't stand him.

Have always liked Neil while he played for us, managed us and when I've met him in person, although I was vocal about wishing he left long before he did.

Can't deny I'm getting pretty tired of reading his comments now though. It's a shame the way it's gone but wish he'd shut up now.

Strange comments still in here I see from supposedly the best fans in the world hahaha. Some right spiteful * and I say it's more to do with their own personality rather than what they are talking about.

How in the name of good * is Lenny supposed to just disappear or never talk about the unfortunate season when asked about it. That just doesn't make sense!

Again, as I've mentioned before on here. He is not without blame for that disastrous season but to blame it solely on him, and to talk about him the way he's talked about on here from 'Celtic supporters' is ridiculous!

We draw a line and move on. He served our club well IMO and for that he gets my own respect!

I agree with alot of what he said but its his inability to take any blame which will stop many fans from warming to him again.

Not a bad listen otherwise, the fergie stuff is always interesting.

Cant believe he threw more players under the bus saying they broke covid rules as well. The covid season highlighted how poor a coach he was without fans

Why though. I don't get why he shouldn't talk about it when asked! Even if he did refuse to talk about, you'll get all them * picking at him for thst so he's stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Listen, I was * devastated when we lost the ten. It actually felt like a death in the family but I wouldn't be one to just blank it out and never talk about it. It just makes winning again even sweeter when things like thst happenel. As much as I disliked what happened, as the aul saying goes the sweet is never as sweet as the sour. Who knows, if we win the 10 it would have been amazing but we wouldn't have Ange and the board spending money and Early at thst and I do believe we are going to a European final and winning it this time once ange gets his team settled a few years. This is going to be our sweet after the sour of losing the ten.

It's time to.move on, give the man the respect he deserves and stop all this bullshit thsts getting flung at him by anounomous people all over the net!

Anyone who solely blames him losing the ten is a * idiot IMO. We had all sorts against us that year from all angles. Refs, linesmen, sfa, thst * of a media and even right through government. Covid tests all going to loyalist east Belfast ffs! You couldn't make it up. The * got their way and are now laughing at us blaming it all on Lennon.

I could go on and on about this detestable little * and pick apart everything but the line

"everything went back to normal for celtic when the fans cane back"

Is an absolute * disgraceful comment. The level of disrespect it shows Ange and the job he's done to rebuild the absolute * car crash that clown left behind is astonishing. In his mind he thinks he would of done the job Ange has done if only he had of had fans back.

He's * lucky there wasn't fans in the stadium that year as he'd have been chased far sooner.

An absolute * of the highest order

He's saying absolute nothing new here. He's saying the exact same things he's been saying for years now. I was all for forgive and forget. He gave a large part of his life to Celtic and after everything that has went on since, with Ange and changes in the boardroom, I was happy to let bygones be bygones.

It's absolutely everyone elses fault though. It's no one else. Everyone else. Not a single shred of self reflection.

    Doesn't help himself at all.

How does he keep bringing it up in interviews. It's something he gets asked and will always get asked about it and he answers it as best he can. How can one fault a man for this! Hes hardly going to come out, throw hands up and say yep, I * it for everyone thst year. Sorry!

Like what! What is you want him to say.
