Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has looked to ease concerns over an injury to Cameron Carter-Vickers for the end of season run-in.

The 57-year-old knows his champions elect are racing toward a second consecutive Scottish Premiership crown as the prepare to face Motherwell at Celtic Park but fears over the fitness of key defender Carter-Vickers have ramped up after the American international missed the clash with Kilmarnock. The United States national team revealed last month Carter-Vickers had pulled out of their squad with a knee injury.

The Parkhead medical team are monitoring the player before making a decision on his involvement over the rest of the campaign with the defender facing surgery once the league title is claimed. The 25-year-old reported for training at Lennoxtown ahead of the clash with the Steelmen in Glasgow's east end.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's game Postecoglou was swerved any fears over the centre-back seeing out the season. He said: "Cameron's trained all week and will play tomorrow. The only reason he didn't play last week was because of the surface

Pressed on whether Carter-Vickers will need an operation, the manager bristled: "I can't predict the future. If he gets through tomorrow, he'll play next week."

He's clearly carrying a knock though. He would've played at Killie if he wasn't.

Delighted he's getting a rest. Needs to come through tomorrow ok.

He needs his knee tidied up. He's been needing the op since the WC apparently

If he gets an operation, at least it'll mean he's probably staying another year. Can't see anyone buying him when he's recovering from any operation.

Should've really scored, but the players in front of him were more of an issue today.

50/50 on whether he should get his surgery after the semi-final, or the game at the Debt Star? Leaning towards giving Kobayashi experience there for next season.

50/50 whether he should have got the surgery two weeks ago for me... Expecting him to play next week, should be done then for season. Gives Kobayashi a run of games like you said

His offensive heading is his only weakness IMO.

For someone so powerful in the air defensively he should be scoring half a dozen headers a season minimum from corners and set pieces. There’s an argument that if he doesn’t improve he’d literally be better being the insurance policy and letting the full backs go up.

We don't have aerially dominant left full-backs, though. And with the starting XI having few aerial threats, the opposition can overwhelm the 3 players that can do something.

Running out of words for him.

    Absolutely * sensational.

He’s probably overtaken Johan Mjallby as the best defender I’ve seen play for us.

Might have been his best game for us considering the importance of it.
