In the viaplay highlights and they're about 1 min shorter.

As club manager did you take a lot of pleasure when you watched Callum McGregor's performance against Spain, especially given he might be up against some of those same players in the Champions League next season?

I am pleased for Callum firstly because I know how much it means to him to play for his country and as much as he's the captain of our club and the leader of our club he just cherishes his national team representation. It was a big night for him and it was a big night for the team and for the whole nation. It's great because it builds belief in the whole group I don't think there is any doubt that Callum can perform at those levels. I think for him to deal with his national team is special. So you take great pride in that and we take great pride as a football club as well because as I said he's our leader and he represents us on the national stage. I thought he was outstanding in both games and played every minute of both games. You saw in the last couple of minutes of the second game that he just has this real ability and determination to give everything and every ounce of his body and that's what he does every time he plays.

Was that a good moment for you? Playing two 90 minutes at that level, but he was still sprinting up the touchline and he's still in tip-top shape. Is that a good moment for you to see that?

I would have preferred the ref to blow for full-time before then! I thought the time was already up, so I wasn't really sure why he was. carrying on. Look it's no surprise with other players who go away with their national team you do wonder how much they are going to play but there's never any doubt that Callum will play all the time. He's [knock on wood] a pretty resilient individual and he wants it and he thrives on that. If you kept him out and tried to rest then it would not do him any good because he's just geared to be performing and always performing at the highest level. So it didn't surprise me that he was the one in the last minute who was still sort of driving forward and the team forward and it just epitomises the person he is as much as the player.

The Celtic player Ange Postecoglou just won't sell - 'I usually say my phone’s not working'
There is rarely the concept of an unsellable player for Celtic.

Operating within Scottish football means their business model requires them to asset manage coveted talents. As far as Ange Postecoglou is concerned, though, his captain Callum McGregor represents an exception. The Scotland fulcrum will lead his team against Ross County in Dingwall on Sunday lunchtime with his reputation further burnished. The 29-year-old’s role in a start to die for the nation to their Euro 2024 qualifying quest crowned with a stunning win over Spain ensured that.

It also prompted County manager Malky Mackay to declare Celtic must have attracted bids from major clubs down south for the playmaker. An accomplished performer he has no doubts would thrive in an English top flight he has first hand knowledge of managing within. Any such moves would be a waste of time, the Celtic manager maintains

It’s something I wouldn’t entertain,” said the 57-year-old. “When the club talks to me about any bids, I usually say my phone’s not working. But that wouldn’t surprise me with Callum. He’s shown he can play at the very highest level. But I still think his best football is ahead of him because he’s growing in stature all the time. There’s nothing I see within him that’s going to slow him down. He’s proven that he can play at the highest level. Thankfully for us, he’s really committed to this club. In today’s football, to have that kind of individual who still loves playing for the club he grew up with - and his ambition is still to make Celtic as successful as possible - is fantastic for us.”

The guy is incredible really. He'll be a one club player, then will coach and manage us at some point down the line, hopefully successfully.

Cannot wait to see him back in the hoops today.

Celtic star in 'hostile' admission over Old Firm crowd situation - but admits ‘bigger’ away fan desire
Celtic star Callum McGregor revealed the team will be looking to use the “more hostile” atmosphere to their advantage in the derby against Rangers – but admitted he wants a return to a big away crowd

There will be no visiting fans at Celtic Park for Saturday’s clash and the situation will be reversed for the final league fixture between the rivals at Ibrox. It was a decision taken on safety grounds following a spell where the allocation for travelling fans was cut drastically. It will likely be addressed ahead of next season.

McGregor hopes it will return to the point where “bigger [away] crowds in the stadium”. In the past, the visiting team have had upwards of a 7,000 allocation

Hopefully as a spectacle we can get it back to where it was maybe a few years ago, where there was bigger [away] crowds in the stadium,” the Celtic captain said. "I think it just adds a little bit of something different. We have to accept it for the time being, but my thought is that hopefully we can get back to having the bigger allocation that we had a few years ago.

Of course the place becomes more hostile, we'll be looking to use that to our advantage at the weekend. Hopefully we can harness that energy in the stadium and use it as a positive for us."

Celtic will be looking to take a big step towards retaining the Premiership title with three points over Rangers. It would see their lead increase to 12 points with 21 to play for.

CALLUM McGREGOR insists Celtic want to ‘send a message’ in Saturday's Old Firm clash.

The Hoops skipper wants to prove they are Scotland’s best team with a dominant victory over Rangers.

McGregor said: “It’s a game at home against a big opponent, we want to go and send a message, of course we do.

“We want to prepare well all week and when we turn up we have to perform, we have to be hungry.

If we do all these things, hopefully we’ll have a positive result.

“If that all works to plan, we’ve done our job properly.

Do we want a big result? Of course.

“And let’s not kid ourselves, they would be the same if the shoe was on the other foot.

“That’s the nature of competitive sport — you want to be the winner and you want to be dominant.

That’s the way we’re all wired. If we weren’t, we wouldn’t be in this game.

We understand there’s an opportunity there and we’ll be doing everything we can to maximise it.”

Aaron Mooy looks set to be fit to face Gers.

But Celts could be without defender Greg Taylor and star midfielder Reo Hatate with both players yet to train this week.

Asked if the Japanese playmaker had a chance, skipper McGregor added: “Maybe. He’s been touch and go all week.

The fixture is a bit different and sometimes you can get through the pain barrier if you can.

“But if there’s an issue you don’t want to be taking crazy risks, as there’s a good bit of the season to go as well. You have to find the balance.

“You get the adrenaline in these big games of consequence. You feel on top of the world and it’s only after the game you start to think ‘oh that’s sore’.

“This is why the boss wants a strong squad. When things like this happen, guys come into the team and we don’t notice a drop off in quality or intensity.

That’s why we have carried a big squad.

“The guys have been working hard and the manager has been big on players taking their chance when they get it.

“When someone is out, it’s an opportunity for someone else.

“You saw it last weekend when Alexandro Bernabei scored from the bench. We have had really high numbers with players coming on and impacting games.”

McGregor insists Argentinian star Bernabei could slot straight in for Taylor if he fails to make it.

He added: “It was always going to take him some time to settle on and off the pitch

If he is needed to play I am sure he will be more than ready.”

Played really well, considering his partners were fkn horrendous.

Kept it simple and energy we needed.

You'd say he was quietish but effective.
