Germany and Spain are nothing special thesedays let's be honest and as for setting up against bigger teams you want players that are comfortable on the ball. Hatate is literally that player but hey ho it's our gain. Everytime Kyogo goes away with Japan ye seems to get injured so I'm happy to keep him fit and fresh.

I disagree with his decision to leave out Hatate and Furuhashi, but if J-League were worse than SPFL, then said players would struggle Here.

If I were to stretch the argument as much as possible...I can maybe start seeing why Hatate doesn't get picked.

Japan in midfield seems fairly well balanced.

However there is no excuse to not picking Kyogo.

He's movement would be lethal at an international level with some of the talent around him in the Japan national team

Celtic are taking the best players from Japan. The rest of the J League is pretty poor. Ideguchi is rotten as are the 2 boys hearts and Motherwell signed.

Ideguchi is unlucky. The other players signed by Scottish clubs aren't of a high standard, but the league as a whole is competitive. And Moriyasu did pick Maeda regardless of any difference in standard between the SPFL and J-League.

I am getting worried about this narrative on strength of league as I also call bullshit on it.

I do worry though that it might accelerate Hatate in particular in looking for a move away. Playing for the national team seems a very big deal in Japan probably compared to some European nations.

When you look at the midfield options selected Japan are actually pretty light at CM.

There are four players and they seem to regularly play 3. Kamada, Endo, Morita and Tanaka. The others are mainly deployed wider like Kubo, Doan, Nakamura, Mitoma and Asano.

He has picked players playing in average to poor other Euro leagues and teams such as Nakamura in Austria; Seko in Switzerland; Tanaka Bundesliga 2 and a middling team there and Asano at the bottom of the league Bundesliga team. Ueda and Hashioka play for poor sides in Belgium.

He seems like a stubborn manager who continues to ignore them because he made a decision that was questioned for the World Cup. I also think he would be like a number of Scotland managers we have had where if they did transfer to a lower team in a big 5 league maybe not even starting they get called up immediately. It really is a nonsense.

Did he take Iwata? He was the J-League POTY a couple of months ago right?

No Iwata, he picked the usual players plus Nakamura from LASK in Austria from midfield forward.

He did pick a lot of inexperienced defenders from the J league (3 - an CB, LB, RB) and Seko playing at Grasshopper Zurich who are 7 out of 10 in Switzerland.

These were probably forced due to retirements of the likes of Yoshida, Nagatomo and Sakai.

Commonly known as losing face. A trait that is synonymous with Asia and more particularly Japan.

    More of his contradictory bullshit.

I think the J league is of a good standard, but by that logic VVD would have struggled in the EPL.

    Farcical.

Refuse to believe there’s another few Japanese midfielders better than him. Maybe one or two.

He didn't call up that many central midfielders. Instead of the one midfielder who did not play at all on the WC, he called up a winger/attacking midfielder of sorts.

Hatate and Kyogo not getting a call up is great for us. They will stay fit and fresh and wont have to travel half way around the world.

Obviously a longer journey but you have to wonder what effect playing internationals had on Tom Rogic’s time with us.

The problem is they will want to represent their country more than anything like most footballers. Could make them want to move in the summer.

Maeda is in the squad so its not because they are playing with us. Its purely down to the manager.
