There's a bit of contention behind the ownership of Celtic's second goal, but in Alistair Johnston's mind, there's no doubt.

The Canadian right-back helped bundle the ball into the net to put the Hoops into the lead for the first time in the 5-1 win over St Mirren, a crucial goal that he is certainly claiming as his first for the club, even if it did take a touch off the St Mirren defender.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the game in Paisley, he said: "I'm going to take it and claim it

It felt like mine and I celebrated like it was mine.

'I hope Canada woke up early for that kick-off to see that and it was an important one.'

"We knew at half-time being down a goal but up and man we had to stick to what we were doing and we got the equaliser and then it felt good to at least be part of the goal that pushed us ahead.

"It was a good result in the end and a good performance in the second-half.

"Our leadership helped us not get off the script and to keep creating chances and it paid off and it's a credit to the manager for keeping everyone level-headed at half-time.

"We kept playing our football and our subs came on and made a difference and raised the levels again and then once we got the first we knew we would get the next and we kept going."

That coolness under pressure helped Celtic score five in the second period to claim an impressive three points, a result which was aided by the contribution of those from the substitutes bench.

Liel Abada won the Player of the Match award having come on at half-time and Johnston, playing behind him on the right, was impressed by the winger's display.

He added: "He's so dynamic and that goes to show for all our wingers. They all pose a slightly different threat, they're so talented and they are a nightmare.

"I know as a full-back when you go up against someone for 60 minutes and they run you ragged and then all of a sudden a new fresh player comes on with a new threat it's always a nightmare."

Hearts are up next on Wednesday, with a second meeting following on Saturday, with the focus now shifting to a big week in two crucial games in the league and the cup.

Looking ahead, Johnston said: "We know the most important thing is getting the results.

"As long as we're keeping clean sheets and progressing then I'm happy and it's a good start to a big week."

It was definitely Johnston's goal, he outmuscled O'Hara for it.

His long range passing is superb. Him and Ralston have very similar attributes but AJ a bit more switched on defensively.

It's going to be tough for Ralston to get back in. He's done nothing wrong too.
But Johnston is an upgrade on Juranovic I think.

He's * jacked as well. Would not want to get into a fight with him. Suppose anycunt in the squad would give me a doing. Apart from Siegrist but I don't pick fights with injured people

    He is unbelievably good.

Early days I know but I'll say it: an improvement on Juranovic.

My favourite player by some distance right now.

Based on Juranovic's form this season, definitely.

Aye it's easy to forget how good Juranovic was for most of last season.

I just think Johnston is the more rounded footballer. I struggle to see a weakness in his game, and mentally/physically he seems * tailor made for Scottish football.

    Another sensational bit of business.

What a player he is. Definitely strong captain material as well (not saying Cal should be replaced just think that Johnston has potential there as well)

Like almost every single player Ange has signed, he has clear levels in him.

His passing first half today was excellent, good vision and lovely weight.

Seen that his grandmother came from Donegal? Is that correct?
