'I can't ignore it' - Ange Postecoglou admits losing temper over certain Celtic player 'behaviours'
Celtic have been so relentless under Ange Postecoglou that it would be hard to imagine the Australian ever having cause to lose his rag with his players.

However, the 57-year-old admits there have been occasions across his Parkhead tenure where he has been forced to show his angry side in dealing with certain "behaviours" that have not been to his liking. Supporters got a public glimpse of his temper in a Scottish Cup tie against Raith Rovers in February last year when an enraged Postecoglou could be heard on camera screaming at his players to stop passing the ball backwards. Such scoldings have also been served behind closed doors whenever the standards which have taken Celtic to another level under their current boss are not maintained.

“I’ve had my moments here, it’s fair to say!" he revealed. “People might be surprised because they might not have been at the most obvious times for some people. It’s not about getting angry or having a blast just for the sake of it. It’s about whether I feel something isn’t as it should be. Usually it’s around - not so much the game or results - but behaviours. If I see a behaviour that I don’t think fits in, I’ll make sure the player and the group knows about it. That’s my role. I can’t ignore it or let it go and be nice. That’s what everyone expects of me. If someone displays something that I don’t think fits in, I’ll have no hesitation in telling them it needs to be addressed."

Postecoglou will hope he has no need to spit feathers in Sunday's lunchtime kick-off at St Johnstone as Celtic look to continue their incredible league form. The Hoops have lost just once in their 24 Premiership outings to date, scoring 74 goals in the process, in defence of the title won last season

“The first thing we do is ignore the stats. They can get you thinking you’re in a comfortable space,” Posteocglou explained. “It’s just the environment we create here. That’s what I’ve done here from day one. These guys come in and no day or minute is wasted

“When you have that, you don’t really worry about stats or form. You know that’s irrelevant and in the past. What’s important is what the next step is. That’s the key. Look at our squad right now, it’s the strongest it's been since I arrived at the club. Training every day is really intense.

“The players can’t come in here and try to cruise through because they’ll get found out straight away. And they’ll lose their position. It just doesn’t allow for it. We have healthy competition. It’s not about anyone wanting others to fail. It’s about wanting everyone to succeed and push each other to the next level.”

Only three of the Celtic squad are out of contract in 2024 and asked whether he wants Joe Hart, David Turnbull and Aaron Mooy to stay beyond next summer, Postecoglou replied: “Yeah but it’s just about having discussions with the players themselves. I need to know where they're at, where their heads are.

“Last year, we had Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic with a year left. It would have been easy for me to let them roll on for another year. But after discussions we came to a conclusion where they felt there were other opportunities they wanted to explore and they moved on. With those three guys, I’m constantly talking to them about what their ambitions are.

“I want to make sure that every step of the way we’re looking after the player’s interests - but also looking after the club’s interest too. Every decision will be made against that backdrop.

Ange's methods and training create even better players once they sign with Celtic. Other clubs note this improvement.

Juranovic went to Union Berlin and now they are top of their League.

Turnbull with only a year left is a slight concern, as he's one that still has lots of room to develop and potentially fetch a decent fee for if he wants to leave.

Would be looking to extend his deal even if it means sign and sell this summer.

Ange Postecoglou is adamant that there's more to come from all of his Celtic players.

The champions strolled their way to a 4-1 victory over St Johnstone in Perth this afternoon.

An own goal from Andy Considine kicked things off, before Kyogo, Aaron Mooy and David Turnbull all netted.

Overall, it was another impressive day at the office for the Hoops.

Mooy may get the headlines for this control in midfield, but the boss was keen to stress all of his players have room to improve.

He told Sky Sports: "Really pleased. Conditions weren't easy, particularly the pitch, and we had to sort of overcome that and not steer too far away from our football.

"I thought we did that but because of the nature of the game, and obviously the pitch, there were times we had to defend. I thought we did that really well as well, which was good to see, and we got four good goals.

It was important because, as the game wore on, the pitch got more and more cut up which meant there was going to be more mistakes, it'd be harder for us to move the ball quickly. Having said that, some of our football was excellent.

"But yeah, important when you get those goals as it gives you a foothold into the game. Disappointed to concede that one we did but, then again, we reacted to it in the right manner.

"I mean, it was a great strike. I don't want to take anything away from it. But yeah, we gave the ball away cheaply in midfield and we spoke about it before the game that on this pitch you've got toreally protect the ball. I thought we gave it away a bit softly and kind of gave them an opportunity."

Mooy was superb once again for the Hoops, notching another goal and an assist at McDiarmid.

His lob over Remi Matthews just before half-time was superb.

When asked if fans should be excited to see more from Mooy, Postecoglou insisted that there's more to come from all of his players.

He added: "There's more to come from all of them - there's no reason for them to stay where they are or to be content with what they've done so far. All of them should improve and want to improve... my role is to make sure they do.

"Aaron was great again today but I thought there were a few who put in a strong performance considering it's been three games in a week."

I’d not be doing a rogic with mooy that’s for * sure.

Will be guts of 34 if his contract does run another 18 months. Would be happy moving that out to 2025 but not further - if I was mooy I’d be looking for security to 2026. Need to see how that pans out.

Turnbull needs a new deal to protect his value and homegrown element (plus the fact he scores goals and that is beyond valuable)

Hart…..I’m going to be a bit contentious here but I’m hesitant at the moment re an extension. Gordon should never have been let go, which counterbalances this argument but same as mooy I wouldn’t be wanting to look past 2025 at all if an extension chat was ongoing

Mooy's got another couple of years in him IMO, the usual slowing down at his age shouldn't really be a problem as that isn't his game anyway.

Turnbull would defo extend for reasons you said, he might not want to though due to limited playing time.

Hart I would extend for 1 more year, have him as a number 2 (maybe coaching role too) but look to bring in someone better for extend season.

Ange - best Australian coach of all time. Been watching from Aus for his whole career, but watching him do wonders with Celtic has me beaming with pride.

This guy just oozes class, his attention to detail is unreal. Best manager we've had in a long long time.

The only reason I detest that club is due to my pure hatred for Chris Moyles. Hate that * almost as much as I hate James Corden.

    Can’t see that happening.

Far too many managers out there with a name who are currently out of work. 2 or 3 on that list alone. Benitez, Bielsa and Pochettino. Be one of them I’d say.

If Mooy's taken decent care of himself he's easily got 3 years left in him. Will see how he cuts it in Europe but will be a good option domestically well into his mid 30s

Benitez, Bielsa and Pochettino are tired, old merry go round names. I think Leeds will go for a new brush sweeps clean manager.

Ange is 10/1 with Skybet at the moment.

When they were churning through managers in the late 90s and early 00s…. Basket-case days with dishy finances and court cases .. they always talked up the likelihood of MON going there. How I laughed when they dropped down two divisions.

Can’t see it myself but it’s the way the media (especially in Scotland ) firstly assume that any epl job can tempt our managers away …. and secondly … it’s clear they like to do it just to stir it and try to unsettle the club.
