Although things seem relatively rosey now, it wasn't so long ago the board were trying to force Bernand Higgins upon us. Then there's the ridiculous stewarding on Wednesday night and the increasing police presence in the GB section. What does this mean? In my view the board still hold the fans in contempt and maintain their arrogant belief that the 10iar * up was just an unfortunate outlier which no-one could have forseen.

Ange appears to be running the whole club at the minute. And tbh he's doing an excellent job but what happens when he leaves? Are you confident the board will get the next appointment right or that there's an appropriate plan in place? I'm not.

The same people who thought Lennon - who regarded tactics and preparation as mumbo jumbo - should replace a manager and squad accustomed to professionalism are largely still in situ.

No I get where you're coming from mate, but for me I think that season was a major kick up the * for those running the club, in terms of the football side of it. No way they'll go back to lazy appointments after seeing what a bit of innovative thinking can achieve. I think they could not fail to have learned from it.

The policing side of it is entirely separate imo. The Higgins thing was a horrendous lack of judgement, and I'd agree that the suits are capable of making those kind of mistakes again.

Did I not read that the stewarding thing the other night was a bit of a misunderstanding? Don't know exactly but thought I'd seen that somewhere.

GG is an incredibly average footballer and I am glad he is leaving. Hes got by because fans love it when players huff and puff and put in alot of effort but hes got a touch like a brick wall, cant pass and a bit of a primadonna as well who flops to the ground and waves his hands in the air too often.

Hes lucky this Celtic team are coasting, if things got tough and we went through a bit of patchy form is he a player who could produce a piece of magic or a class finish or is he a player who is going to take bad touches, misplace passes and give away needless fouls. For me he is the latter.

I hope you’re right but something very similar to the bit in bold could just as easily have been said when Rodgers was here winning everything and qualifying for the Champions League.

They hired Lennon in the showers without even looking at other applications.

For me it’s about complacency. Complacency from the board, complacency from the fans to assume the board have learned a lesson. It cost us the 10. From top to bottom we should never become complacent again.

To be fair I did think that at the time of Rodgers' appointment, that the board had pulled it out the bag after the failed Ronny experiment.

But with the Lennon appointment we didn't have the disaster/blessing in disguise of a complete and humiliating collapse. It was a stupid and lazy appointment yes, but no one would have ever expected it to go the way it did.

So, the fact that it did, has given them tangible proof that they need to always be on the ball with these things, and the reaction by the support is tangible proof they won't get away with it for long.

End of the day we can only hope, but I don't want to create problems that aren't there when things are going well.

I don’t know about that mate. Quite a lot of people felt it would end in tears or at least that it was a risk. The reaction to the news as it came in even despite a treble win was quite something. I think everyone, including the boardroom, knew they were appointing someone several grades below Rodgers and frankly they were purposefully not being diligent.

But I am hopeful that the huge success of Ange and the fact we have had some change in the boardroom will mean we won’t go backwards.

Sorry my mistake, I didn't mean that no one predicted Lennons appointment would end in tears, I was as much against it as anyone. Will never forget that day down the Gallowgate hearing the news he got the job an hour after we won the cup. It took so much shine off the celebrations.

What I meant was, no one could have seen just how monumental the collapse was. Obviously covid was a big part of it but Lennon showed just how ill equipped he was to handle it.

Point being, the board appointing him full time was a mistake, but just how big a mistake it turned out to be is not something anyone could have seen coming.

    Was Ronny a failed experiment?

He was a criminal refereeing act of cheating away from a shot at a treble. He brought fitness, dietary requirements and methods that made the players rethink their dedication to their profession.

That might have wound up some from the old school way of training, snooker hall, bookies, pub, car shopping and Dubai hopping poseurs, but he started the new way of thinking.

    Brendan then imposed it.

Time has been kinder to Deila's tenure, and yes of course he was the precursor to Rodgers' success.

That being said, some of the football toward the end of his time was vile to watch on the eyes, and no chance he survived after being beaten by the huns in THAT semi final.

I’ll ramp up the controversial aspect. He reminded me a bit of Jellyfish.

During his Everton days there was a stat that was something like Jelavic’s last 27 goals were from one touch, he was a bit like that.

GG was a bit limited. At the elite level we need a bit more from our strikers to succeed at that level, albeit we’re paying £3-4m for them and the teams we’re facing have ones going for £20-30m so that’s to be expected.

But we should always be striving to improve our team and that’s one area while we can. Whether or not we do remains to be seen.

He was a good coach but I never ever thought he had the 'character' to do great things with us. You know as well as I that it's not just about getting a football team to win in this * hole country, you need to battle all sorts of * that comes with the job. Refs, media, bigotry, racism....everything is engineered to make us fail.

Which is one of the many reasons Ange is such a perfect fit for us. His football management abilities are elite level, but he embraces adversity, takes all the mind games etc and shoves it right up Scotlands hole.

Ronny didn't get it. Too busy trying to impose his vision on the club, sort of shrugged his shoulders when we got beat by the huns. The remark about character is pretty spot on, he wasn't a good fit for the club.

    • Hart is a reliable shot stopper. I highly doubt his eventual replacement will be as good a shot stopper as he is.
    • I'm a bit worried we are undersized when it comes to dead ball situations. Iwata, Mooy, Hatate, Maeda, Kyogo, Jota, Abada, Haksa, Forrest, Taylor, Bernabei are all fairly short. Even CCV, Yuki and Welsh are relatively undersized for centre halves. Ange values pace over strength (and for good reason). The plan is to outrun our opponents, not to outmuscle them. That said, perhaps we could have a use for a strong, commanding DM who could transform into a 3rd centre half in dead ball situations. Let's say an Abildgaard type of player, only better.

Turnbull is as good a prospect as O'Riley is.

If he discovers he has a left foot then I’d be more inclined to agree.

Rodgers gets a harder time from the support then he deserves. Lawell’s biscuit tin mentality would drive any manager mental. That said still think he’s a * :56:

Genuinely could not believe how much the support lapped up Lawwell’s narrative when Rodgers left.

Folk were retweeting Strachan’s Sun article bleating on about how Lawwell is Mr Celtic :56:

Then when 10 was * everyone was kidding on they were always against Lawwell.

It’s got nothing to do with Lawwell, it’s because he left mid-season for Leicester City. I don’t know why people try and tie the two together.

He only had to stay and finish off the season. He didn’t have enough respect for us to do that, despite the * he spouted while here.

Both of them have their limitations but for me Turnbull was class last season until his injury. O'Riley looked phenomenal early on but has dropped off recently.

Think recency bias has Matt down as a better player for most, depite Turnbull contributing massively for 18 months beforehand.

People tie the two together because he wasn’t being backed to progress in Europe. I agree he’s a * for playing he was a huge fan and leaving half way through the season card but we had one cup in the bag and Scott brown won the league at rugby park.

It’s called controversial opinions for a reason mate :56:
