ANGE POSTECOGLOU has praised Michael Nicholson and the Celtic board for supporting him in the transfer market and hinted that his business might not yet be complete in the January window.

The Celtic manager has long referenced the positive working relationship he enjoys with the club’s CEO, and he says his backing in ensuring Celtic have managed to secure the targets he has identified has been a key factor in their on-field success.

As in previous windows, Postecoglou has managed to get the bulk of his business done early during January, but he says there may still be movement in both directions before the transfer deadline on Tuesday night.

“I’m comfortable in the business we have done,” Postecoglou said.

“I am really pleased with the players brought it. We have got the targets that we sort of set out to get in this window.

“For the most part, it’s been really efficient, doing it early. (Hyeongyu) Oh has taken the longest, but he is one we felt was important to persevere with.

“Obviously, we’ve had a couple of exits as well, so we’ll see how things go over the next few days.

“We’re always sort of active until the window closes if any opportunities arise. But the key thing is we are not going to be scrambling in the last few days looking for solutions.

“If nothing happens, we are in a great space and, if an opportunity comes, then we’ll look at it.

“The proof is in the pudding. It doesn’t matter when you do your business, it is the business you are doing. But certainly for us it has worked well to identify targets early and try to bring them as early as possible.

“For that to happen, the whole club has to be aligned and we are. One side nominates the targets and we work together to get it done. It has worked well for us so far.

“Getting players in early, allowing them to settle and we are getting the right ones because they are making a contribution.

“With all these kinds of things, it’s not an exact science. But if we are all aligned and on the same page, I just think there is more chance of success.

“There are still some days to go. I’m sure there will be some movement. More likely out than in at this stage, but there’s still days to go.”

We actually should give him a longer contract to show him his worth to us. And if he has plans of going it means whoever takes him will have to pay up the rest of his deal

No, but if he was to win a treble this season and somehow qualify for the CL last 16 next season he'd be up there I reckon.

Not sure he'd sign a long term contract even if we offered him one, going by what he said last summer.

“I have never worried about my contract length or security. I kind of work as if I will be there forever, knowing that I won’t be. I am a driven guy in terms of success. We have Champions League football next season. They are the kind of things that are important to me. Contracts and all those other factors that people are more interested in just don’t enter my thinking."

Just a CL result like you describe would elevate his status to memorable heights. It's the one thing we haven't gotten from our more football-progressive managers in the modern era.

Seems Ange views Iwata key to a future formation change/overall flexibility..

This is exactly what we need as a club and business to grow and develop. Really want him to bring thru a team of academy kids and building a successful team round that nucleus. When SEVCO went bust, we should have taken the chance to promote kids and build a team from the Academy.

It's hard to see who's going to beat us domestically atm.

Maybe the odd slip but we are controlling games in an insane manner.

Slip-ups happen because complacency builds up. But they are so infrequent we're always going to be fine. Of course, we want a treble, and that requires even more focus than just winning league games.
