Surprised this analyst claims Oh is better with the ball at his feet than Jo. The technique I've seen in highlights of both players made me think Jo was better in that aspect. I suppose Neat watches full games.

 

Like any new signing, such as Hyeongyo Oh who officially became a Celtic player this week, fans are quick to want to see their new man in action.

The 21-year-old South Korean internationalist joined after a stellar goalscoring season with Suwon Samsung Bluewings in the K-League, where he netted 14 goals to keep his team in the top-flight.

Even though he’s not played a competitive game since November, Ange Postecoglou feels that Oh can get involved as soon as possible, with the possibility of a debut coming in Sunday’s league match away to Dundee United.

He said: “I’m really pleased to get him in. Credit to Michael Nicholson, everyone working with him, and the player himself because he kept persisting.




He’s a young guy but very mature and wants to make an impact, as seen in the way he’s tackled his career so far.

"He’s made strong choices, he’s done his military service, he worked hard to keep his team up last year as a young striker, he made the national team squad, and now he’s made a decision to try and crack it over here.

'He’s been training and was doing pre-season with his club for the last three weeks, so he’s in good physical condition but he hasn’t had a game since November.'

“It’s a big week for him with the travel and the signing process, so we will see how he goes but I am keen to get him involved as soon as possible, so we will see if that’s this weekend or midweek.

“People know I love my strikers that work hard defensively and he certainly does that, but he also adds a physical presence in the front third with his link-up and in the box.

“He’s still relatively inexperienced but looking at what he’s done in his career I reckon he will be a quick learner and he can contribute straight away for us.”

Looking at Ange Postecoglou’s signings so far as Celtic manager, it’s fair to say the vast majority have come in and hit the ground running, which gives fans hope that Oh will follow a similar pattern.




Much of that comes down to the manager not just focusing on the player but ensuring the person fits into the group, and the Hoops boss was convinced from his first conversation with Oh that he has the mindset he looks for.

He added: “When you’re talking about recruiting and bringing people into your organisation, we have a clear methodology on how we play and our structure so you identify guys who you can picture in here to start with.

“I’ve had many conversations with players and walked away thinking they won’t be the right fit for us and we haven’t done the deal, but with Oh, I knew straight after I got off the call with him that he was exactly the right type for us.

“His own determination to get the deal down shows it wasn’t about driving the best deal.

'I’m not sure his agent would have been too happy with him but he just wanted to come to Celtic, it didn’t matter what the deal was.'

“As a manager that excites you because it’s the kind of players and people you want in the building.”

Anyone else noticed in the K-league video one of the celebrations was that they turned the lights off after the penalty.

I think it would be a cool celebration-y type thing that could be reserved for only him, like the lights go off and the green ones come on tracking him running off to the crowd
