Would not agree with you there. I think Aaron is on 23 grand, same as Kyogo ? Mooy has a better pedigree, better CV, more international games, more EPL experience, and has now played in two WC finals. He is also a better and more creative and rounded footballer.

If he wants to be the number 1 striker ahead of Kyogo, then GG needs to be indispenable. Its not good enough to just hang around in the box waiting to be fed by others. He needs to get the fans excited and up on their seats. He has the physique of a Martin Chivers without the finesse and ball skills. He should be banging in goals outside the big box while on the run, playing one-twos and making space to get the ball to shoot etc. He needs to make the position his ahead of Kyogo and put away even his half chances, instead of falling over his own feet and marking his own marker instead of finding space to receive the ball. I agree he needs to have a pay rise, but not to 23 grand. I think 18 grand just for his goal potential alone with a long contract is good for him and his playing abilities. At age 28 he should count his blessings and make sure that he convinces Ange that he is a more desired attacker than Kyogo to be in the first eleven each week.

Giakoumakis is a one-touch goal box poacher of goals who can't put away penalty kicks with his current technique. He gives central defenders problems and creates chances for fellow team mates around him. He is an important cog in the Celtic machine but he is not a generator, not a Calmac, a Hatate, or a Mooy.

Giakoumakis makes approx 624,000 quid a year at present and is 1.5 years into a 5 year contract at the age of 28. That's over one million US dollars a year. That's good money for kicking around an inflated ball. If he is wise with his money he can make a good life for himself and his family now and once his footballing life is over.

@George Theodorou watch this from 48 seconds in. GG away out on our right hand side 40 yards from goal, holding the ball up to let others get into good posotions, then starting the move he finished off a few seconds later.

The very opposite of 'hanging around inside the box waiting to be fed by others'.

    For £3million?

I’d say he’s bordering on irreplaceable.

But if he can make double that why wouldn't he want to?

You can be happy and settled in a job at a company but underpaid even if the pay is already good.

He doesn't have a fan connection like we do, and goals win games, he's proven himself to be a game winning asset for us, yes he's been moved to a 2nd choice but has proven his reliability and like many here would argue probably deserves more game time too, especially when kyogo wasn't fully firing for a bit earlier in the season.

I do not want him to go, and if he does there is no surety it will be better for him. I want him to be equally valued with Kyogo and give Ange selection headaches. He also should get a pay rise at Celtic.

Yes, but it is recent and it is rare, and we need to see more of the same because it has been lacking in the past.

Neither do I, I would like us to keep him he has proven himself here and gives us something no one else in the team does, but it is the cycle of players

I'll give you him not being great at intricate passing, 1-2's etc, it's not his game, but he's been more than just a penalty box poacher for us. He has put himself about plenty since he's been here, using his strength to hold the ball up and bring others into play. That goal the other night wasn't just a one off.

In the context of what Giakoumakis does for us as a team, and I don't say it lightly, is he has made himself virtually irreplaceable for us at his level.

He is a game changer for us, he ragdolls defenders, he has suprisingly good defensive qualities in helping out the defence, he is feared by opposing managers in the league, and the Celtic support have formed an emotional bond with him, unlike anything since probably the days of Henrik Larsson.

He is well worth his asked for wage rise 23K, taken all of that into consideration.

How do you replace that ?

He's an average player that we can improve on. There is a reason we got him so cheap and the prices being quoted about him leaving are what they are.

I’m actually looking forward to Giakoumakis going and Kyogo being the sole striker.

Maybe it’ll stop whoever eventually replaces him getting unfairly slagged off, once people realise that Kyogo can’t be relied upon as the number one striker.

The abuse Giakoumakis gets is unbelievable, given his constant contributions in the final 10 minutes of games Kyogo did * all in for 80 minutes.
