Sure is. The thought of the amount of lives that must be lost crossing oceans just for a better and safer life is horrendous.

Watched a film The Silence last night. Actually thought it was alright, although similar to A Quiet Place. Like these apocalyptic, scavenger types of films, getting me used to when it happens for real.

    Banshees Of Inishiren ...

Didnt think it was that good tbh.

Wanted to love it but i struggled, couple of funny moments but very few. The chemistry between the 2 are fantastic as expected. I thought Barry Keoghan was excellent though when he was on screen and stole it.

I don't think the era helped tbh....not a lot to joke about.

Its not *,well acted but slow.

    6/10

Watched Banshees of Inishiren tonight, really liked it. Some funny bits as expected, but quite sad in parts. I don't think it's quite at the level of In Bruges or 3 Billboards but still very good.

Watched "a river runs through it" probably the first time I've watched the whole film right through.... don't know why that is but I'm pleased I did .
    Really enjoyed it

Watched The Menu tonight, really liked it. Very weird, but quite funny. That Anya Taylor Joy is no real.

She's quality. Have liked her in pretty much everything she has done so far... loved her take on Emma in the adaptation from a couple of years ago, she was great in Last Night in Soho, loved her in Queen's Gambit etc. The Menu was pretty quirky and wicked. Make mine a cheeseburger!

Aye she's great man. Rarely see John Leguizamo in anything I don't like either, and Ralph Fiennes has been in some great films.

I watched Amsterdam tonight as well which also has Anya Taylor Joy. It was decent enough I thought, although I think I was expecting a bit more when I first saw the cast.

Yeah I caught that at the cinema... the acting is all fine incl ATJ, Christian Bale et al, just the story and the film as a whole and missold for the noir-ish type theme/mystery was all a bit underwhelming. :/

6.5/10. Decent wee twist at the end but quite slow and not much happens.

Always feel with movies with such eclectic cast are generally a bit off

About to start The Hangover again. Normally not overly fond of American comedies but this movie is up there with the best of them. * hilarious :giggle1:

Been making my way through all of Martin McDonagh's movies after watching Banshees of Inisherin. I've seen some before, like In Bruges and 7 psychopaths but they are still watchable. One I hadn't seen but enjoyed is The Guard. Set in Ireland and starring Brendan Gleeson as a, let's just say, unique police officer (Garda) who has to team up with an FBI officer (Don Cheadle) to take down a drug smuggling cartel.

Not bad at all, not McDonagh's best work but has enough laughs to keep you going and the characters and dialogue are as quirky as you would expect from a Martin McDonagh film.

Also, Cheadle and Gleeson are the most unlikely team up you are ever likely to see. But they work well together.

Enjoyed that film when I watched it a while back.

Btw that’s not a Martin McDonagh film. It’s his brother John Michael McDonagh who wrote and directed it. He also did Calvary (which is good but grim).

If you want some more Martin McDonagh, I highly recommend this short film from him (starring oor Brendan Gleeson). Watched it the other week - really good.

You're right enough about The Guard. After watching Banshees I just googled Martin McDonagh movies and The Guard was in among them. Glad it was tbh as I enjoyed it.

Funnily enough I couldn't tell the difference. Had that unique Martin McDonagh feel to it.

Yeah I'll watch Six Shooter right now.

The Guard is brilliant, didn’t know it was the same guy that did In Brugge so I’ve a few McDonagh films to go

The Guard isn't a Martin McDonagh movie, as pointed out by Doofy. Surprising though as Martin McDonagh movies are very similar in cinematography, character driven, quirky screenplay and not least by any means, stars Brendan Gleeson. It's actually his Brother's movie. Still, if you liked The Guard you will most likely love In Bruges, 7 Psychopaths and Banshees of Inisherin. Very similar formula.
