Or we should just accept who Ange wants in the team..

He's the f'ing manager and it's ultimately up to him who plays.

Yes, but he's losing a fine player over a stupid thing. And, it's a player whom he should know how to treat, given that they're both of the same ethnicity. I love Kyogo, but I'd accomodate GG with regards to playing time, if I were the manager. I'd play 4-2-4 if need be.

Now, we haven't found a replacement of a very good striker.

We will seriously regret letting him go this window. Nothing surer.

We aren't getting anywhere near his quality in as a replacement. Who's going to be selling a top striker in January?

His replacement will be some Klimala *.

Giorgos Giakoumakis has been hailed by his teammates after the striker helped seal Celtic's place in the Viaplay Cup final despite being linked with a move away.

The Greek international, 28, was once again named on the bench by Ange Postecoglou for his side's clash with Kilmarnock in the semi-final at Hampden this evening. However, with Killie pushing for an equaliser late in the game, Giakoumakis capitalised on his opportunity to play by putting the game out of sight with a tap-in deep into stoppage time.

Giakoumakis is expected to leave Celtic this month after both he and the club failed to come to terms on a new contract, and he is reportedly in line to have a medical with Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds. However, he clearly didn't let that affect him with his performance this evening and showed his appreciation for the support of the fans as he celebrated his goal.

Credit to this whole group. The moment we wear the Celtic badge, we all pull in the same direction."

Likewise, Celtic defender Carl Starfelt was keen to highlight just how hard Giakoumakis has been working behind the scenes at Lennoxtown as he praised the impact the striker made tonight.

He said: "It's always nice to see the striker score and especially when you come on like that. He's been working very hard and he's a really good player so, of course, I am happy for him to score."

Some turn around of opinions in here, wonder how many people talking like he's irreplaceable now were saying he should be punted this time last year.

I like the guy but some of the reactions to the idea of him leaving have been way over the top, I have much more faith in our manager and scouting these days that we can find a suitable replacement.

I'll really really miss him if he goes. Don't think I've ever celebrated a goal like I did the one against St J.

I do agree, and have said the same in this thread.

But I have it in the back of my head that if the plan has been to sign Cho and that doesn’t work out, we could panic buy the wrong player since the window closing without a replacement is unthinkable.

Have you had any concrete bids for Giorgos Giakoumakis?

If anybody bids in concrete then I will certainly not entertain it. There is nothing. There is going to be speculation between now and the end of the window. Michael (Nicholson) deals with the majority of that and if it gets to me we know it's serious but there is nothing that I need to address.

Whatever happens with Giorgos Giakoumakis I thought he showed a great attitude by getting his goal today didn't he?

He always has. I kept getting asked questions about him and Josip (Juranovic). I see them in training every day and their attitude is first-rate. If you look at our second goal it is (James) Forrest to David (Turnbull) to Giakoumakis and that's the three guys I put on. They are not sitting around moping that they are not starting. They understand that for us to be successful then we need a strong squad and whether you start or not the opportunity still exists whether you play 60 minutes or 30 minutes to contribute to your team and that is the attitude of the boys. It was brilliant for Giako to get his and the three contributors to the second goal is a testament to the attitude of the boys at the moment.

So just give him 25K a week then other players want the same not being first choice. for a back up striker we offered him 6 grand more than he is currently getting what else can we do?

The GG situation is confusing the life out of me. If it's just a case of the manager not wanting him here then fair enough but, if it's a case of money, then surely we should be offering the big man a better deal than bringing someone in who just might be *. If it's the player himself who want's to leave then it's his choice and there's nothing worse tham having an unhappy player in the dressing room. I would love to see him stay but it doesn't look promising just now.

Aaron Mooy is on about 23k supposedly and I wouldn't class him as more important to us than Giakoumakis. That's not to say I'd chuck 25k at him but if he's on say 10k we should at the least be offering him double, with some incentives.

We need him more than he needs us.
I’d love him to stay but our model is this….buy cheap and sell for a profit. My major worry is who is going to replace him? The top goal scorer in Holland and Scotland and we are letting him go. He is the most natural goal scorer in our squad. Ok, you get my feelings, I’d love him to stay.

In the past I would have worried about us scrambling about for a deadline day deal but not anymore, we'll have scouted plenty of players, and bring in some rando none of us have ever heard of but will do the job.

GG himself was a bit like that, yeah he was top scorer the year we signed him but he couldn't buy a goal the rest of his career that's why he wasn't already playing for a bigger team, was lucky to hit 5 a season before then, there was genuine concern we were signing a one season wonder.
