Feels bizarre this would happen on semi-final day. Not convinced he won't be in the squad for today and this isn't quite done yet.

It’s terrible business. If I’m being critical, it sets out transfer policy back by years.

We’ve demonstrated an ability to get good money for our top players, but we need to be doing better then getting £5m for our second striker, given what he’s demonstrated here.

How is doubling our money on a second choice player setting our transfer policy back years? Everyone we've sold for big money in the past has been young with teams paying a premium for their potential. He's done well for us, provides a great alternative physical threat to Kyogo but his all round game is still a bit lacking, aside from one good season at venlo before we bought him his scoring record was awful, teams were never going to be banging our door down with huge offers.

He's one of my favourite players of recent times. Really annoyed thats hes been left to rot on the bench and yet again we fail to pay properly to keep decent players.

On the other hand though why would anyone swap champions league football, old firm derbies, winning trophies etc to go to Urawa Red Diamonds, a team I have literally never even heard of.

    Just * all round.

I think the trebling of his current wages will be a big factor in that.

We are due injures, it always happens to go the rest of the season with one natural striker is madness.

We get a run of injuries, further bad decisions and poor form that 9 point lead could be cut.

GG hasn’t had enough minutes to make a massive contribution let’s be honest.

Also let’s not forgot how pivotal he was last season for us to win the league.

We will bring in another striker. 100%. I'd imagine one is a lot closer than we think and we probably don't have a clue about it until it's nearly done.

I just had to add to the previous, people are also forgetting how pivotal he was for us winning the league last season in the second half of the campaign.

He will be a massive loss.

Money, at his age this is probably the last big contract of his career to set himself up for life after football, Urawa are owned by Mitsubishi so they won't be short on cash. He's not a Celtic fan, he's already got his winners medal and played in the derby, doubling his wage at this point will be more important to him than doing that again.

Can't blame him for wanting to treble his wages now he's got a family.

The fee is low, but sometimes transfers like this happen. Think Varane to Utd, Thiago to Liverpool etc. Sometimes when a player really has that desire to leave the club work with them to facilitate it. Maybe we realise we can't treble his wages and there's a bit of good will involved, who knows.

Just think how the Japanese fans must feel when they're selling their best players for proper peanuts :giggle1:

Given we did our business early it might seem that the window SHUT on Jan 1st, but it didn't.
We've still got more than two weeks to get players in.
Plus we still have a goal threat in Jota, Maeda , Abada, Forrest, etc etc, should anything happen to Kyogo.

Why would I think it shut when clearly there is a transfer window open on that date. But aye thanks for remind me pal.

Like I said if it was to happen going into the second half of the season with only one natural striker would be madness.

Suggesting Forrest up top if anything happens to Kyogo is just downright * silly.

The old we have two weeks left as well, aye heard that before too.

Fair deal in my book. We bought him for £2.5M and we reportedly sell him for £5M. He literally doubled his market value in just 1.5 season. Not sure what you guys were expecting for a 28-year-old backup striker. He's a terrific athlete, but a very limited football player. I'm fairly confident we can find a better player for £5M. Look no further than Kyogo whom we signed for £4.5M.

That’s one way to spin it, or we are losing last seasons to goal scorer who only really got fit around the Christmas period last season due to an injury.

He has then gone on to produce some fantastic form that help us win the league and is in his prime coming off the previous season finishing top goal scorer in the Dutch league.

Big Jackie cost us half of what Kyogo did and he is stronger, holds the ball up better and offers us something completely different up too (both offer us completely different things which is good), this has been shown against the zombies and even in Europe, which he was more impactive than Kyogo for me this season.

    5 million is disappointing, absolutely.

Selling in January is always dumb.

Disappointing to only have him under 2 year into a big contract and then lose him for relative peanuts.

Do you remember when we're told that buying players in January is difficult?

    It's apparently not.
