    Scott Burns in the record

URAWA Red Diamonds have put a double-your-money offer on the table to win the growing fight for want-away Celtic star Giorgos Giakoumakis.

The big-spending J-League side are looking to beat off interest from Germany, Russia and Italy to land the Greek international. Italian side Sampdoria have come into the equation but that deal would be a loan with an option to buy if they were to remain in Serie A.

Any fee from Giakoumakis is likely to be pushed that way. Urawa Red Diamonds chiefs are pushing to get a permanent deal done for the Giakoumakis and have pushed out the boat financially. They are prepared to pay a fee of around £4 million and to really weigh Giakoumakis in financially to entice him to Japan. The deal would see the 28-year-old more than double his current wages and that would be net rather than after tax.

Express Sport reported last month that contract extension talks had broken down with Giakoumakis and he was keen to move on. The Celtic striker moved from VVV Venlo in the summer of 2021 but despite scoring regularly has been unable to dislodge Kyogo Furuhashi as Ange Postecoglou’s main striker.

That and not being anywhere near Celtic’s top earners have left Giakoumakis keen to move on in this window

8 mill is a bit more like it. Would be fairly happy with that..

20 in for Juranovic and Jackie at this point would do..

Good old Scottish media one saying £4m and another got us in line for £8m, no difference there.

Also where’s the £12m for Juranovic being reported?

£8 Million is what I'd expect for him tbh, top scorer two seasons in a row.

Depressingly so in this case. Feels too soon but can see why he doesn't want to play 2nd choice, especially at his age. Would love ro see an alternative universe where he was the main man (Even tho I love Kyogo).

Still think they’d kill it in the right formation up top together

Ones things for sure we will not be signing the top scorer in the Dutch league ever again…especially not for 2.5m. Was a great deal and and we will profit from it (although not as much as we could’ve had he played alot more) and he also played a huge part in us winning the league and securing the CL dosh. If was our No.1 striker last season and this season so far we would be in a similar position I’d wager. Still baffles me how we picked him up so cheaply.

I think this goes deeper than a improved contract. I remember when Kyogo got injured last season and GG banged the goals in. He was dropped when Kyogo got back from injury and have not started much after that. Very strange as i thought he was the better of the two back then. Especially considering he was scoring against the huns. Must have been a infuriating situation for him to be in.

Dosnt matter how good you are if you are not happy where you are.

Don’t think it’s recognised how important he was last year, top prem scorer and for the most part got 30 mins here and there! Will be sad to see him go, but totally understand it. 90 mins every game somewhere and he’ll do another 25+ season with the right service. Still can’t believe an ajax, feyenoord etc. didn’t pick him up for the fee we got him for originally. Pennies
