Cho Kyu-seong, who raised his stock price at the World Cup in Qatar, was surrounded by rumors of a transfer to Mainz. Britain's 'Evening Standard' reported on the 7th (Korean time), "Cho Kyu-seong chose Mainz. Celtic will miss him."

Then, the media added, "Jeonbuk allowed the transfer of Cho Kyu-seong for a transfer fee of 2.5 million pounds (approximately 3.8 billion won)" and "Park Ji-seong, who played for Manchester United, is negotiating in London as Jeonbuk's technical director."

As the detailed news continued, it seemed that Cho Kyu-seong was getting closer to moving to Mainz. But in an instant, the atmosphere changed.

Germany's 'Kicker' said on the 8th, "Mainz only scored 19 points in 15 games this season. We need to find a solution in the transfer market this winter. The leading candidate is Korean World Cup star Kyu-Sung Cho." After figuring out the financial situation, interest quickly cooled."

It seems that the 2.5 million pounds demanded by Jeonbuk was burdensome for Mainz, who did not have enough finances. As it is reported by a kicker with high public confidence, the possibility of Cho Kyu-seong eating rice with Lee Jae-seong in Mainz has decreased.

Of course, there are still many teams that want Cho Kyu-seong. Several European clubs, including Scottish champions Celtic, American Major League Soccer (MLS) clubs, and Turkiye Fenerbahce are known to want him. However, it is not easy for Jeonbuk to send Cho Kyu-sung right now, so it remains to be seen whether the transfer will be in January or June.

It's rare for German teams to end in severe financial trouble, but they do try to live within their means. I'd have thought they would have been able to pay what Jeonbuk wanted. Lucky us.

I am not convinced on this Mainz story, it may be because we are used to terrible journalism here but to me it seems like a team linked to get others to get into action.

The article yesterday said they had easily out bid out £2.2m bid and the article from Kicker claims they cannot afford £2.5m? Interesting it said Park was in London negotiating a deal from there.

It sounds like we like the player and he likes Celtic, however doesn’t want to be third choice coming in which is understandable.

We have Giakoumakis who is alleged to be on £11k a week wanting that doubled or their abouts and we have offered him around a 50% increase. Also from his perspective it doesn’t seem like the interest in him has materialised so far that he expected.

Looks more likely Giakoumakis is going too so that should help with his concerns about game time too.

British media Evening Standard said on the 7th (Korean time) that Cho Kyu-sung would choose to move to FSV Mainz (Germany) instead of Celtic (Scotland) in the January transfer market.

The newspaper said, "Cho Kyu-seong, who scored a multi-goal in 3 minutes at the 2022 Qatar World Cup against Ghana, has been approved by Jeonbuk to transfer to Europe." "The transfer fee will be 2.5 million pounds (about 3.8 billion won).

However, the German media kicker introduced that "Korea's Kyu-seong Cho is being mentioned as a candidate for Mainz's recruitment in the winter transfer market." After checking, interest quickly cooled."

After the World Cup in Qatar, Cho Kyu-sung is quickly seeking to advance to Europe.

In addition to Celtic and Mainz, Turkiye Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, Greece's Olympiacos, and American MLS teams are being discussed as destination candidates through local media.

In this situation, after listening to various proposals, the agent Cho Kyu-seong is determined to carefully review the course of action with Cho Kyu-seong and the Jeonbuk club, with the summer transfer market in mind.

In a phone call with Xports News, Cho Kyu-seong said, "Currently, we are waiting for proposals from two other clubs besides Celtic and Mainz." told

In addition to the additional proposals from Mainz and Celtic, if an offer from two other clubs comes in, Cho Kyu-sung's options will expand widely.

Cho Kyu-sung's side said, "Cho Kyu-sung has left open all possibilities of where and when he will go. We have left all possibilities open in the winter and summer transfer markets. We are also communicating well with Jeonbuk regarding this."

Meanwhile, an official from Jeonbuk club said, "We are waiting for the situation of the players. We are proceeding as planned. We plan to join the training camp in Spain."

On the 13th, Jeonbuk prepared a talk concert for players and fans who participated in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, including Cho Kyu-seong.

Cho Gue-sung's future has taken a fresh twist after Celtic outbid Mainz for the signature of the South Korea striker.

The World Cup star appeared set for a move to Germany after Mainz submitted an offer believed to be around £2.7million. However, Football Scotland understands Celtic have now officially entered the bidding war by tabling more money for the Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors frontman - which could rule Bundesliga side Mainz out of the race.

Former Manchester United favourite Park Ji-Sung is currently in London leading negotiations on behalf of Jeonbuk as their technical director. The K League 1 club were initially reluctant to lose their star man this month but have now accepted an exit is inevitable, with interest growing across Europe and the United States.

Reports in Asia this morning claimed that Mainz have now withdrawn their interest, but it's unclear whether they will return to the table with improved terms. Should they turn their attention elsewhere, it would leave the door open for the Hoops to clinch a deal for the in-demand hitman, who turns 25 later this month.
