No one will convince me that this laddie is better than Giakoumakis!

If we miss out on him because he chooses Mainz then fine. Nothing we can do about that. If it’s because of penny pinching that’s a different story.

Surely the boy would want a chance to compete in the champions league and win titles and medals over being in a side that's mid table in the Bundesliga thatll be competing for nowt.....maybe just me

We would need to have a bid accepted for that to happen

Flip side of that is week in week out he'd be playing in a better standard of league, a handful of cl games a season isn't always going to be a big enough carrot for a lot of players.

If ange wants him I think we'll up the bid...the board have backed ange in the transfer market tbf. And im not having this "Mainz only have one ST"....they've got 4 senior forwards and 2 youngsters that are in/out of the match day squads

None of the strikers they use up top are prolific, however. I could see Mainz promising him a starting spot. Ange has been backed so far, but this transfer saga is so unlike anything in the Ange era- it's more like the crap of past years. What Ange points at, he must get. He's deserved it. I don't know if he wants Jo. But if he does, the transfer fee should not be a mountain to climb.

Aye he's probably got a better chance of a starting spot at Mainz..their main man is a Germany u21 that got 12 league goals last season so not guaranteed. And aye I agree with the reluctance to throw half a million/million on securing top talent we've missed out on a few because of that....Ivan Toney being one

We also took Šćepović over Kramarić, even though Kramarić was willing to come. Toney had apparently come to Glasgow- the negotiations had gone that far. Yes, he's got a gambling issue. But psychologists can sort that out. As a fan of Celtic, I want our transfer business to be done efficiently and quickly. Ange should be in full control over the purse strings. He's the one who's using the signings.

I can accept a player not coming to us, if he himself has reasons.
As a Korean NT supporter, I wouldn't begrudge Jo going to Mainz. Very sound move for his development, TBH. But I want it to be because his Korean NT teammate persuaded him or because he's scared of having 6 Japanese players as teammates, not because we had a willing player waiting for us to sort out the transfer with his club, only to blow it.

It depends what the price is.

Wouldn't pay over £4.5m for him.

Nothing’s really changed as far as I’m aware. A big part of this is reliant on Giakoumakis leaving though (from the player’s perspective).

A disastrous situation would be selling Giakoumakis, missing out on Cho and then squandering a few million on someone further down our list... like a Klimala/Bangura/Balde/Pukki type.

I'd rather we kept GG until the summer

    Me too.

I'm not at all confident we'll get the replacement right.

    Same.
I know I keep saying it, but it is true, we still have a league to win.
And GG is a known quantity.

This might be what's causing the hold-up, but it has to be said that any waiting means Ange will miss out on a player we think he prefers.

I think a replacement would be brought in before Jackie went out......or all but signed..

I don't think we'd punt him if we didn't have our man..

I disagree, because 9 points (perhaps it becomes 12) is enough of a cushion to allow a striker to be replaced mid season. I've no problem with GG remaining our striker and us quitting on Jo, though.
