I just find the timing bizarre mate, we've been proactive willing to invest in order to improve and take steps forward as a club, the 3 players we signed were last month and November. Lawell signs on the 1st on January for us and we're all of a sudden back to penny pinching for a player that would most definitely take us forward. Got Mcginn written all over it. It's maybe not him and we'll see what happens but I just hope we don't go back to the old ways of transfer dealings

You've been told that PL has nothing to do with player acquisition, that is the remit of Michael Nicholson, who has done a phenomenal job since he started his role.

We clearly had a strong interest, clubs in South Korea have proven difficult to deal with. A few South Korean players have started their careers in Germany. Commercially this guy was a dream. Team wise he would have fitted but clearly we have had some sort of issues with the fee and/or their reluctance to let him go in January.

It does sound like the player prefers Germany and the prospect of starting at Mainz, which is fair enough. While I do think we may have been dragging our heels a little with the club it sounds now like the player would rather go elsewhere. If that report is true, fair *, we move on.

 

The fact that Giakoumakis hasn't attracted any bids must be the issue. Jo doesn't feel assured he'll have his playing time if there's 2 strikers at the club already. If Mainz have submitted a bid, he's likely to consider it. A fellow countryman is already there (Jae-sung Yi) and the current strikers over there aren't prolific, meaning he has a chance of immediately being given a shot at the starting striker spot.

Germany has established itself as a decent place for asian players coming to europe, wouldn't be a massive shock if he chose a german team over us even if they're not top end. * Lawwell, letting other leagues exist.

To be fair to @G40B , there was an article where the player has spoken positively of us. If this is the case, why hasn't the transfer fee been paid- even if it meant catering to the club by paying closer to what they want? It should be possible for us to get that part sorted, given our excellent financial situation.

 

Yeah none of the others are up to replacing Giako, I fear.

I hope we get a new name pop up out of nowhere, or hold on to Giako til the summer. Still think we might get the other South Korean, but I think he'll be coming in as third choice.
