He’s decent enough at this level. 27 now actually maybe if he was 3 years younger it would be worth a punt as he’s be fairly cheap. He’s a cert for the Huns anyway they will offer him like 20k a week as we won’t be that stupid.

True, but other clubs and leagues have a head start on us in scouting those regions. Other than German or Belgian clubs, we must be one of the most interested clubs when it comes to East Asia.

I'd go so far as to be looking at capitalizing on this interest through attracting Europe-based East Asian players, such as Kang-in Yi (Mallorca) through the power of persuasion. We can present ourself as a cozy, accepting destination to guys like him, or even Heung-min Son once he leaves Tottenham.

We’re due a few to be fair :fear:

I agree though; he’s absolutely miles away from the level we’d ever require.
Never realised he was back there too. I’d definitely have taken Berg here. Sure the weather would have been a bit more “homely” for him here as well! :56:

We didn’t miss the boat with either of them. The two of them are pish and nowhere near Celtic level.

Maybe system players. Similar thing has happened with Atalanta players the last few years. Thrive in their system and environment but move elsewhere and perform below par.

I've wondered if the same applies to their manager as well. But we will never know until he moves on

They were both Scottish players performing well above the level there, both would have been worth a punt for the <300k they both would have cost. A very low risk transfer and if they then weren't up to the standards here we would likely have made a small profit regardless on them or at worse a small loss.

Would just have been waste of time though. A wage drain as well.

Shankland is a penalty merchant and Niebet has scored 7 goals in a season and a half. Obviously we should always be looking at the best young Scottish players around, but neither of those ever fit that bill.

Nisbet romped league 1 then stepped up and scored 24 in the championship the season after then scored 18 in his first prem season, a pretty good progression.

I'm not saying either of them was the 2nd coming, far from it, but both were performing excellently and would have been low risk. We signed bayo for 2mil, klimala for 3.5 and neither are worse players than them and they would have satisfied association grown. Armstrong was a huge success here from a 250k outlay, Mackay Steven wasnt quite as a much but he contributed and was then sold for probably about the same as we bought him.

Morgan as well, we can all agree he was not up to it with us but we still made a small profit on him when he was signed as a top player from the championship. Is there anyone there just now that would be worth a punt? Probably not right now but we should look for it

There’s absolutely zero point in bloating the squad with substandard players. They’re not good enough and that’s really all there is to say on it.

I’d also argue that both Bayo and Klimala are significantly better players than Nisbet and Shankland to be quite honest.

The last decent young talent in the spl was Hickey and Turnbull and we got him...never fancied Nisbet, Boyle, Ferguson or Shankland. The Spl is barren when it comes to young players that I would like at celtic that could improve us...which is why we're shopping in the Asian Market.

None of the boys they sold or that left them have done much at all.

Lode released back to them after failing in Bundesliga 2, Berg sold back, Bjorkan released, Junker been mediocre in J league, Botheim was doing ok in Russia but nothing in Serie A and even Hauges has struggled for game time everywhere he has been even now at Gent who are pretty average. I liked Solbakken but I can’t see him doing much at Roma either or really getting a chance.

We are probably not a bad next step for players in Norway or Sweden rather than moves straight to the bigger leagues. Not so much because our league is better but the element of always having to win and playing a lot of games a season would prepare players for the step up. Not to mention the fact we are on the doorstep of the EPL, share a broadcaster, will have local scouts at most games and the likes for exposure. In addition we will represent a step up in remuneration from their domestic leagues even if they go no further.

20 year old Filip Rönningen Jörgensen from Odds BK

Never seen him play but some data analyst flagged him up. Supposedly a good DM but moved to a CM/AM role and been even better.

If we have to replace O'Riley, there is a Korean AM who I've probably mentioned before. Kang-in Yi. Set piece specialist- just saved his team (Mallorca) from a draw with an awesome indirect FK assist in the 94th minute. IMO, this guy is the closest player there is to Nakamura, right now.

We will surely be keeping a close eye on the Duk at Aberdeen. They will want a lot more of us though than a EPL/Serie A team. Don’t think he’s there yet but if he keeps improving and contributing the way he is he will move on pretty soon I’d imagine.

Liked that Vetlesen from Bodo when he played against us. Just checked there and he seems to have been banging them in for Bodo. Still only 22 and in the national team now. Type of player that would work well for us I think. Anyone know a bit more about that league and can go a wee bit more in depth on him?

I'd still take a punt with Nisbet and Porteous, both cheap as chips with the potential to be decent players.

I'd take him, he'd score goals for fun.
Only issue with it is he wouldn't start! Strikers like GG are confidence players and if your gona be a sub each week form dips. Any striker we bring in should be in a battle with our 1st choice Kyogo. Spend on a cracker and keep both players on there toes.

I would take Shankland as back up as well. I actually think he is a good player.
