Pretty confident both will be our players. Both also seem to offer something slightly different.

How so? Both are relatively tall, and currently play in the striker role. Okay- one has been switched there more recently. But it's not like either of them plays like Furuhashi or a deep-lying role like Stokes used to do.

Highlights I've seen of Oh-Hyeun suggest he likes to drift wide and has a far more direct and powerful style than Cho, with more pace. Cho seems more of a traditional number 9.

Okay. He apparently was a winger and got switched to center. I'm really not sure how much of his highlights show him playing on the wing as intended, and how much is him drifting out wide from a central position. If what you say is his preferred style, then either Ange has no idea of what player he's after, or he's reducing the focus on nice, technical build-up. When I saw Hyeon-gyu Oh, I immediately thought of Norway 1998. A tall winger good in the air.

I got Perisic vibes. So yeah, tall, powerful winger who can also play centrally if needs be.

D'Oh. Yes, Perišić. Spalletti at Inter used him specifically for that strength and heading ability on the wing. Mandžukić played on the wing for Juventus, too. If Ange intends to use this guy without imposing changes on his playing style, then...whoah.:88: Even Kobayashi's signing hints towards this- he is a left-sided CB that likes to play diagonal passes. We might give a few shocks to European teams if this is true.:88::biggrin:

    Poor Abada, though.

Potentially getting 5 players in this window would be * outstanding.

Right wing, left wing or equally comfortable on either?

Hyeon-gyu Oh has not played on the left wing, from what I've seen. Neither has Gyu-seong Jo, I think- mostly stayed central or right. I really wouldn't link the first one (from Suwon) with Ange. He just seems such a different player to what we have on the wings. Jo is a slightly taller GG, so that was logical.

Cho was also a dm before getting changed to a striker early in his career

That’s an interesting point of view and I have to caveat my comments with I am only going off the various videos of the two.

Cho to me looks like Giakoumakis’s (GG) replacement, a centre forward with presence but can link play better than GG and also carries more of a threat when shooting from outside the box. Not sure he is as physically strong as GG, Cho but is taller and actually looks more clinical in the air.

Oh, being younger and the point about not maybe being an Ange player, I am not sure I agree based on what I have seen. To me he looks like he could play on the right in a similar manner that Maeda has for us on the left, looks to have a great work rate, real pace and physicality but unlike Maeda looks like he can dribble a bit, not Jota style but more using his physical attributes to our pace or out muscle opponents, all while as you and @Mr Shelby point out above carrying a real aerial threat at the back post.

That game on Monday, all be it an outlier showed how isolated we can leave our striker at times when struggling to get out of a half decent press, having another option to go more direct may not be a bad thing.

Not surprised their club wanting more money, reckon they’ll be wanting £5-6M or a hefty sell on fee.

Agreed, but there is a caveat regarding your mention of the Monday game. Barišić is probably one of not many left backs in the game who can counter Hyeon-gyu's play, himself being tall and strong. But still, if Ange demands that this man be brought in, we might be seeing a smarter Celtic in Europe. Your typical LB won't like a physical approach, and a header sent into the path of Furuhashi or Jo. I had been frustrated with Ange's persistent tactical idealism. But this is promising.

Good. I think we're pretty stacked at LW, but a player comfortable as a striker and an RW would be very useful - competition for Abada and Jamesey.
