It’s not really down to Sakala to avoid Starfelt though in my opinion. At the end of the day, Starfelt has totally mistimed it and is sliding as Sakala goes to plant his foot. If it’s the other end I’m wanting a penalty. The problem is, if it was at the other end, we wouldn’t have got it. That’s the issue. We were denied a stonewaller, whereas they got one that probably was a penalty in my opinion. The longer we stay quiet on this the worse it’s going to get as well.

The penalty was 50/50 a penalty for them but wouldn't have been for us.

Can’t go to review it if the VAR ref doesn’t allow it. Both were VAR checked and not deemed worth reviewing on the monitor.

You just knew it was a pen as soon as Starfelt made the motion he was going to slide. I don’t really have any complaints about that pen, only that if that had been us against them they would’ve checked it to death. You just know any penalty we get given against them (haha) that it will be checked on the monitor not matter how obvious it is. They are only meant to go to the monitor if it’s a blatant error.

If that was Goldson on Maeda, Beaton would have ignored it. VAR would have checked it in 30 seconds and moved on. Then we'd have seen a replay 2 minutes later in slow motion of Maeda's studs landing on Goldson and McCoist and Walker would have went "yeah he's just landed on Goldson there it's not a penalty" with one of them probably lauging "hahaha if anything it should have been a foul on Goldson Maeda's stamped on him, he should have got a card for that hahahah".

I'm done talking about it mate.. some in here can't have civil conversations.. My opinion is its a penalty and if it happened the other end the same people in here saying it wasn't would be screaming penalty and shouting abuse at anyone that disagreed..

It's done.. penalty was given and we still got a point and maintained our lead.. don't give a * anymore

I'd need to look at it again but I don't think so. Doesn't really matter. We won't agree anyway. No point going over it any more. It was obviously a decision that could have gone either way given the disagreement on here but one things guaranteed if it can go either way then 9 times out of 10 it will go against us - we can probably agree on that.

Aye, ref makes a decision on the pitch. Makes his explanation of what he seen, VAR ref looks at it to see if it’s a ‘clear and obvious error’ and if they think so it usually goes to the monitor. If they deem it isn’t then it doesn’t go further.

So, essentially then you have TWO referees officiating the game?

Not really mate, unless the ref on the pitch uses it that way. In the case of the Goldson handball yesterday, Beaton’s probably said no I seen it, he’s protecting his face that’s in the rules, Collum’s looked at it and think it’s plausible from Beaton so goes along with it rather than reviewing it.

That’s all the ‘clear and obvious error’ *. Honestly, I’d rather they’d have equal power and the VAR could say nah go check that one regardless. The VAR ref can disagree with it being the right call but if they don’t deem it blatantly outright wrong, just what they wouldn’t interpret then they can’t call it to go to the monitor to double check.

Beaton was caught clear as day mouthing to one of our players “it’s not my job” - during a VAR check.

So aye, if a referee is making calls in the studio that has nothing tk do with the ref on the park, and as you say if said referee makes a decision Beaton can’t do anything about it, then I’d have to say two guys officiating during a game sounds about right then…

    Aye? I missed that bit.

Scottish refs have royally * up the implementation and how VAR should be used. Sheer incompetence.

It’s been a system in place for years elsewhere, they had test runs, they had about 18 months to implement it. It’s inexcusable.

If you look at how it was used in the World Cup to how it is in Scotland, it’s * madness.

Thats the thing have a normal debate about it fair play but just hate name calling (yes I've done that it'll the past) but some will always see a different version of what happens. Again I don't think it was a foul either way just a soft soft decision, that VAR should have been called for monitor and all. No just because Gollum was pseudo-officiating from a room far away. I personally think both should be held accountable for the shitshow yesterday, with both reprimanded for negligence.

You could even see with walker who was co commentator yesterday he was getting annoyed with Beaton why he wouldn't check both incidents and the reason he wouldn't check them he would know if he checked the Celtic penalty claim he would have to give it as it would have been shown a few times to him .
It was a stonewaller for Celtic and think Beaton knew that and that's why he wouldn't go to the monitor and the cheating continues.

If the VAR ref tells the match ref to come to the side and review a decision can the match ref say 'no I'm happy with my decision'?

This is why the comments between ref and var official should be made public and maybe the var official could have said to Beaton to check it but Beaton probably knew it was a penalty and refused to go there and that's the loop hole with var if you don't have a neutral referee which Beaton isn't .

The difference with goldson is he does a push out motion towards the ball as it comes to him rather putting his hands to shield his face and that’s what makes it a pen for me

Exactly mate.. done arguing with folk on here.. lifes too short.

It was a soft decision but I can see why it was given.

The real problem and why so many are going mad is that Beaton wasnt called to have a look and the same with the Goldston incident.. VAR has been an absolute disgrace and bordering on farcical since its been introduced here. Celtic need to call it out..
