What an outstanding film btw, and such a random storyline. Loved it.

It's not a film that everyone will enjoy, the acting from the main characters is outstanding, it's a drama and a black comedy with some real lol moments, i was transfixed from the opening credits, so refreshing to see something different.

It's the quality of the performances that make it such a good film, may be too slow for many, but it's worth it.

Yeah, it's definitely not a movie for everyone. I like that sort of film though, character driven and loads of chemistry among the cast. Can be slow burning at best and seemingly aimless at worst, but it's all about the talent of the actors, the screenplay and the cinematography.

At the end of the day though, I could have sat through another hour easy, just watching all the actors effortlessly bouncing off each other.

It’s a bit of a metaphor for the Irish Civil War. It wasn’t the only theme of the film, but it was definitely a deliberate choice to set it during that period. Friends who suddenly aren’t any more in the middle of a feud that ends with no real satisfaction for anyone. And when it’s over they can’t just go back to being friends.

I thought it was great, but a lot sadder and darker than I was expecting. Barry Keoghan was brilliant and his character was really tragic.

Just seen the previous movies that were written by the guy who wrote Banshees (Martin McDonagh) include '7 Psychopaths' and 'In Bruges', both cracking movies.

One of his other movies (and arguably the best of the lot according to reviews etc) is called 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri', so that's tonight's viewing sorted.

Watched Primary Colours last night. Pretty fun film on US politics.

They're both excellent, In Bruges and 3 Billboards. I haven't seen all of 7 psychopaths, need to get round to that.

Watching In Bruges led my old man to take a trip over there with my mother, and he never goes abroad. Looks like some city, would love to visit.

Took me a while to get round to watching 3 billboards but glad i did, really good film with a harsh subject dealt with subtle humour. Great cast to boot.

Continuing my iPlayer films binge..Just watched Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy for a second time. I didn't rate it at all first time around but thought it was quite good on a second viewing. I loved how they recreated 1970s London complete with Harp beer cans too. Did a great job on that. 6.7/10

Just watched The Banshees of Inisherin. Not bad with a few laugh out loud moments but I didn't think it was as great as some think. 6.5/10 for me.

    Everything Everywhere All at Once

This 4/10 review sums up my feelings on it

    Disappointing: more style than substance
Evelyn * and her husband Waymond run a laundry. Times are tough and they're in trouble with the Internal Revenue Service. There's also some niggle with their daughter and her father is a constant source of belittlement and scorn. Now Waymond wants a divorce. Could things have turned out differently for Evelyn, maybe in a parallel universe?

The plot summary for this movie intrigued me immensely: the idea of exploring how things might work out if you'd plotted a different course or, more broadly, the idea of parallel realities. The actual product, however, is far less engaging or coherent.

The lack of engagement begins immediately. The Wangs' everyday life is a manic, unfocussed existence and just following this for the first 20 minutes or so was fairly annoying. It doesn't get any better once the multiverse concept is introduced, this just being an excuse for random detours and well-choreographed but meaningless action scenes.

It's like a typical pretentious concept-driven sci fi/fantasy movie: paper over the lack of plot with a concept and developments that are so radical and in-your-face that viewers are fooled into thinking there's something clever there, when there isn't. Then, to make it seem even more important, have the movie go for 140 minutes when 100 minutes would have been sufficient.

Every now and again there is a profound moment but due to the preceding scenes being all empty random action there's no context and the impact is diluted.

    Disappointing.
