Abada anticipates a mistake and goes to run in behind, whether that is challenging for the ball is the big question. He doesn't contest the header, he doesn't stick a foot out to make a tackle, he anticipates a mistake so gets on his toes. I agree it's open to interpretation though and allowed the officials to make a decision. I just think they come to a different conclusion if the offside player isn't wearing green and white hoops.

He might be anticipating a mistake but he's clearly making an attempt to pressure the player and/or ball. I just think that he's made an attempt to interfere with play which has caused the defender to make an * of it and that's what has let Abada in.

I'm not going to sit here and say that VAR has been good to us. It's been an absolute shambles. Between the handball from O'Riley against Ross County to the penalty we were never given against Hearts. However, on this occasion. I think it's the correct decision. My main issue was with the referee going to the monitor. He's either interfering with play or not. He's either offside or not. VAR should be making that decision for him, not the referee on the * pitch.

Abada didn’t interfere with the defender. The defender misjudged the bounce of the ball and made an * of it. The ref shouldn’t be going over to the monitor either. I’ve never seen a ref do that for an offside/onside decision. As soon as he went over though, you knew the outcome. If that’s the huns, it a goal without the ref having to look at the monitor, that’s a certainty. These * are re-writing the wheel when it comes to officiating our games.

So if Abada was onside and you were the defender and said to the coach, 'I couldn't clear the ball because of the challenge Abada attempted' (attempted is an addition to the rules you have made). What do you think you coach would say? 'aye your right enough son, prime maldini would have fluffed that header too'

    Really?

Again, interfering with an opponent is language you have used to defend your position despite it not featuring at all in the actual rule.

By the way we’ve been getting refereed, the handball should be a penalty as well. Much worse than O’Riley’s. For what it’s worth, I don’t think either of them should be penalties, but that’s the problem. We are getting cheated, that’s the long and short of it.

It’s a disgrace what’s going on mate. We should be highlighting all these things, especially now as we are not dropping points so it doesn’t just look like sour grapes. Which you can guarantee will happen when it does cost us and we complain about it.

    100%..

I don't think it was handball last night but i do think the ref would've been asked to go over and check the monitor if it was us. That's the problem. Same as the night before. They would've been checking everything if that was us at Pittodrie..

It’s offside since the defender has to play the ball and Abada is in an offside position, shouldn’t * take 5mins and for the ref to go to the monitor. Was more * off the fact he played advantage from Turnbull getting wiped yet gives the offside instead of pulled back for the free kick. * shambles of a ref, never mind the Bernabei yellow card.

For the handball it’s literally the exact same as the one against O’Reilly against Madrid, one rule for everyone else but us. Cheating *.

See that’s the thing, where does pressure come into it? How much pressure is allowed, can the player not come within 3m? 5m? 10m? Can the player run at him but bend the run well before the ball gets to him? How about if the player runs at a position 1m behind the defender? 2m behind? When does the interpreted pressure stop?

This is why the rules are clear, Abada has to play the ball or interfere with the player through a physical challenge.

It stops exactly what happened last night, it stops interpretation, it’s meant to help refs by them not having to make a personal decision on pressure, it was designed to be clear, but the hun refs went and deliberately * it up so they could rule against us.

My apologies, I should have been more clear. The rules states 'interfering by:'. None of the scenarios which are applied contain that language.

Could you clarify which of the bullet pointed scenarios you are referring to when you say interfering?

He didn't put in a 'challenge'. Surely a challenge means putting his foot or his body in or jumping for a header. He ran towards the player and wasn't near enough to put the challenge in when the guy deliberately headed it (to say that is a deflection is laughable). So he was onside.
It wasn't a 50:50 decision as some are saying. It's at least an 80:20 in favour of onside. The linesman didn't give it and he must have known Abada was coming from an offside position so he must have thought the header put him onside.
It also wasn't a clear onfield error so shouldn't have been overturned.

Yep and just in case anyone is wondering about the definition of interfering, here it is and tell me, where Abada has committed an offence?

A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by:

    • interfering with play by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate or

    • interfering with an opponent by:
      • preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or

      • challenging an opponent for the ball or

      • clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent or

      • making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball
    or

    • gaining an advantage by playing the ball or interfering with an opponent when it has:
      • rebounded or been deflected off the goalpost, crossbar, match official or an opponent

      • been deliberately saved by any opponent

Clearly onside then. Anyone who says otherwise either can't read or can't follow quite straight forward instructions.

That's pretty cut and dried. None of that falls under what Abada done last night.

The club better be all over this.

Nothing Abada done obstructed or prevented the defender from clearing the ball, the defender just * up his clearance. He may have been put off by Abada anticipating a mistake but that does not constitute a challenge as detailed above.

Has anyone got the total amount of VAR calls for and against each team?
