Why do they even bother asking Ange about speculation on players leaving. The big man obviously sees the pish in the papers over here and treats these * with the contempt they deserve.

Celtic 'getting pretty close' to another signing as admission is made on Josip Juranovic bid
Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has revealed his club are “getting pretty close” to making a third winter signing.

Japanese central defender Yuki Kobayashi and Canadian right-back Alistair Johnston are already in the building and will be available from January 1, following their moves from Vissel Kobe and CF Montreal respectively, and appear likely to be joined by another new face. The Scottish champions are understood to have targeted South Korean striker Cho Gue-sung. A fee in the region of £5m is expected to be commanded by his club Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors following his strong showings in the World Cup finals. Fenerbahce are also believed to be pursuing the 24-year-old, who became the first player for his homeland to score twice in a game at the tournament. His double came in the 3-2 defeat Ghana that gave way to a victory over Portugal that allowed them to progress from their group.

Postecoglou suggested Celtic could seal a transfer deal for an unnamed player within the coming days. “We’re getting pretty close now,” he said. “I know Michael [Nicholson, chief executive] and Chris [McKay, chief financial officer] want to spend some time with their families at Christmas. We’re working on things. There are still a couple that we are kind of investigating at the moment. We will see how things transpire over the next week or so. We’re not even into January yet so there is still a bit of time.”

Even if the identity of the 23rd senior signing to be sanctioned by Postecoglou across his 19th-month tenure isn’t known, there appears little prospect of the title holders dipping into the domestic market any time soon. Yet, the absence of any Scots among the players the Australian has brought to Celtic isn’t a deliberate policy. “We are constantly looking everywhere, including Scotland,” he said. “Our first port of call is our boys. While we haven’t signed anybody from Scotland, there are guys like Anthony Ralston and Greg Taylor who have become firmly entrenched not just here, but also in the national team. That wasn’t necessarily the case when I first got here.

We wanted to try and promote players from our B team and our own academy. Whether they are Scottish players or players from another country, that’s going to be our priority. To be fair, the best young players are leaving before they even play for their first teams here in Scotland. That’s a challenge for all of us. We’ve got Ben Doak down at Liverpool. We’ve seen [Nathan] Patterson go. These kind of guys. We’ve got to be smart with our recruiting and go where we know we can get deals done. Even though it’s right on our doorstep, it doesn’t mean it’s easy here in Scotland."

Meanwhile, Postecoglou maintains he doesn’t have to be realistic over losing any players as Josip Juranovic is linked daily with big-money moves and Giorgos Giakoumakis reported to be unsettled, for one simple reason. “I’m totally realistic about it. There’s nothing,” the Celtic manager said. “As we speak sight now, we haven’t had offers for any of our players. No-one is coming to see me and demanding to leave. If and when things transpire, I will deal with them, but right now, there is nothing to deal with.”

CELTIC manager Ange Postecoglou has taken issue with Aberdeen counterpart Jim Goodwin for lumping his team in with Rangers, and can’t understand why the two Glasgow clubs are widely referred to as if they are one entity in the broader Scottish game.

Pittodrie boss Goodwin has defended the ultra-defensive tactics he employed against Celtic at the weekend by citing the 4-1 defeat his team suffered against Rangers at Ibrox earlier this season, where he adopted a more attacking formation that left his side open at the back.

Postecoglou says he has no problem with Goodwin setting out his team in such a fashionwhen playing Celtic, but he just wishes that opposition coaches, players and the press would stop discussing his club and city rivals Rangers as if they were one and the same.

“That’s the beauty of the game,” Postecoglou said. “You can play it in different ways.

“I have no issue with Jim setting up his team the way he did because he thought that was the best way for him to get a result. I’m hoping he analysed us, and he thought this was the best outcome. “The issue I had was that his reference point was that he said his tactics against Rangers didn’t work. What’s it got to do with us?

“I have no issue with that kind of approach to getting a result. Every manager has to put out his team in a way he thinks best to get a result. What I do have an issue with is this generic analysis that we have.

“When I hear opposition managers and players talking about ourselves and Rangers as if we are one entity, that when you play the top two, this is what happens. I don’t understand it.

“We are totally different teams. We have different set-ups, different types of players, different strengths. Having one as a reference point for the other, that’s the bit I don’t get.

Even the press ask questions in that manner. It just bemuses me. The reality of it is that, yes, they are playing defensively, but they have different ways of doing it. Callum Davidson does it differently at St Johnstone than David Martindale does at Livingston.

“Even playing home and away, it is different. So even if we think a team will play defensively, we still look at that team and say ‘ok, where are the potential areas we can exploit? Where can they cause us problems?’ But a lot of it is really generic.

“We are selling the football public short because there should be nuances in there. There are differences in there. It is a little bit lazy when people just refer to teams as a group rather than individual entities.”

Meanwhile, Postecoglou has revealed that speculation over the future of Josip Juranovic after his impressive displays at the World Cup is just that, with no other clubs in contact with Celtic about the Croatian right-back.

There’s nothing,” he said. “If there is one thing about speculation, the realism is what you have to deal with.

“We haven’t had any bids, we haven’t had any discussions. So, for me to start thinking about that is to leave reality and work in a space where speculation or conjecture is going to charter my day and I just don’t work that way.

“As we speak sight now, we haven’t had offers for any of our players. No-one is coming to see me and demanding to leave.

“All those kind of things…if and when something transpired, I will deal with them, but right now, there is nothing to deal with.”

He doesn't give these hacks a peep. Love how level headed and honest he is about all the bullshit they try and think up.

Only wish he would stop inadvertently giving them advice :56:i.e stop thinking of us and them as the top two and start concentrating on what they have to do as a team to beat another team :48: Telling other managers they have the wrong mindset when going into those games. Making it all about the "big two" rather than concentrate on each game and everything around it that could influence the outcome :52: They're already copying his Angeball tactics!

You have to mind these are the rags that print stories like 'you've been opening your tins wrong your entire life' - come on 23 year old, please enlighten me show me what I've done wrong my whole life. Or the!!!! 'My son went to school with my husbands gimp mask, I'm mortified' - that mortified you picked up the phone, called 'insert rag here', told us you embarrassing story, to which only a few people knew, now you want the nation to know? That mortified really? Lololol

He wasn't raging but he looked irked by how that went from 2 nil up to a nervy second half. The fact he was asked if Ralston would make the St Johnstone game and he said we'll see, then went and said there'll be changes on this performance....tells me he'll be going through some in the dressing room..

Aye that is major, he doesn't go anywhere near comments like that if the team is even just satisfactory. Big shake up coming I think.

I think that we can be far slicker and far quicker when we have the ball. Genuinely at times it feels like our passing isn’t crisp or accurate enough but we seem to get away with it because the opposition are always camped.

Do get what you're saying about the first half, we played well for the most part. Problem is there is no cutting edge at all. The second goal is what we're all about, and it's the first time I remember seeing it in * knows how long.
