It would freeze the balls of a brass monkey out there now. Been like this last few days here in the west and up north. Was at a mates wedding and came out of hotel yesterday at 12ish and everything was still white. Cars where all thick with snowy ice. Felt fresh although wasn't great driving to the west of Ireland in it today. Few dodgey spots on the way down.

Never experienced anything like that the night..

Took us about 6 hours to get back from a 50 minute journey earlier in the motor. Crashes. Jams. No exaggeration but hundreds and hundreds of motors stuck and stranded along the motorway and all the way. 1 lanes. Polis had to escort so many of us through when it reopened as you couldn't see the lanes with the snow...then hit even worse traffic jams and * all over the place :giggle1:

In the end it was spotting how many Mercedes' were out of commission..

    Wild..

At that time, we were already having a lot of fun with the snow. Some people think it's a fake but it's a real video. It was filmed in Lyon by the Lumière brothers, inventors of cinema.

Embarrassing that the UK is an utter mess at the prospect of a little snow that falls. Planes circling sky and cant land,Trains and Buses at a standstill at the first light signs of snow. They knew it was gonna snow today for the last 3 days and yet Public Transport is still in a mess and News stations having Alerts etc and Warning updates.

Look at how countries like Sweden/Norway etc deal with it with very little problems on significant snowfall days, yet we are at near standstill due to a couple of inches of snow and ice.

Temps went up a good bit though.

I don't think you can really compare Sweden/Norway and UK at winter times.

The winter is a given here it will always be very cold and lots of snow, by law you need to put your studded/winter tyres on here (studded tyres are not allowed in UK)

There is squads of loading shovels out all of hours of the day and night clearing snow from roads and in city and putting stones on pavements.

The infrastructure here is completely different, you have what here in terms of big cities? Stockholm, Göteborg, Malmö, even then that's only a couple of million people in all those places combined.

Plus it's -17c where I am now dropping to -26c during the night. They are just geared for it every year but it still causes problems, still lots of accidents, still things stop working etc.

The colder it is, it's actually easier to deal with because there is less mositure in the air and things don't really freeze like your car windows, just a light dust of snow that is easily removed.

The problems come when it snows, temps raise a bit, it melts a little, then temps drop again and freezes like cold snaps in the UK.

I should add it's just a completely different mentality the public have in Scandinavia to the UK which makes a big difference.

Ye you right....just kinda infuriating though that the slightest bit of bad weather being it Snow/Gales......the infrastructure near falls apart.

It wasnt even that bad at all this morning with Snow in Glasgow yet planes are still circling awaiting to land.

    Whereabouts are ya from anyways?
