A non-executive chairman is a role unconnected with the day-to-day management of a business and which is instead concerned with effective management of the board. As a 'non-executive', the chair is impartial and can use this distance to maintain an objective position, albeit with the duty of representing the interests of all shareholders.

Thanks for the intel. What is the legal perspective if a Non-exec chairman “inadvertently” became involved in the day to day running of a business, whilst trying to maintain their role as effective manager of the board of directors?

Can a Non-exec director or chairman be impartial if they have skin in the game like a reasonable amount of preference shares in said company?

As shareholders, can we who have shares, not vote him out at next AGM?

He's probably been in house during the last 18 month, don't see it being official making a difference.

Fear the worst with this appointment! Hopefully Ange has developed such a close working relationship with the CEO that the new chairman won't be able to interfere.

Last thing we need is lawwell playing his old tricks and the manager * off!

Ange Postecoglou admits he’s thrilled Peter Lawwell ’s Parkhead comeback has been made official after the former club supremo was confirmed as the incoming chairman.

Lawwell is set for a dramatic return to the boardroom in January just 18 months after ending almost 18 years as chief executive. The 63-year-old had been expected to land the role since Ian Bankier announced his decision to exit in the New Year after 11 years at the helm.

Lawwell has been a huge figure at Celtic and overseen a period of dominance in Scottish football. He also recruited Postecoglou in the summer of 2021 in one of his final acts as chief executive. Postecoglou admitted the former chief has never really been away – but he’s thrilled to have him back on board in an official role. The boss said: “The people who made the decision are best place to answer what Peter brings. But from my perspective, I’m delighted.

He was probably the first person I spoke to about the position here and he was hugely instrumental in bringing me to the football club. Even though he hasn’t been working in an official capacity, he’s been a great support to me since I came here.

“It’s great to see him involved again as chairman. He’s had so much success at this club and he knows the place inside out. It’s great for me personally and for the football club.

“I think the continuity and stability is important at a club. Like any side around the world, the most stable you are, the more chance you have of success. With Ian stepping down, it was important the person replacing him understands this football club. Peter has all those attributes and experience, and I’m sure the entire club will benefit.”

Postecoglou already has a solid working relationship with Lawwell and recruitment chief son Mark Lawwell as well as chief executive Michael Nicholson. He admitted Lawwell senior’s major clout in the corridors of power at UEFA is huge for Celts – but it’s the back-up to the football operation that will prove key for the manager.

Postecoglou said: “That (European influence) is important as well, definitely. I would think that was another reason why the decision was made to bring him in. I’m not involved in that side but I see it from a football perspective and what he brings in support of the football department. That’s where the relationship is great for me.”

It's almost as if Lawwell as been on the board this whole time (as previously reported) and Ange is completely fine working with him, and not the doomsday scenario of him suddenly appearing out of nowhere to take us down from the inside to the benefit of nobody.

Wait... You think Gia is knocking back a contract (unconfirmed btw, and also irrelevant as he has YEARS left on his deal), because Lawell somehow got his mits on the offer, reworded it, or included some sort of clause, and now Gia won't sign????

Deals appear to be lagging? Which deals? Which deals are lagging precisely?

Key men are being hawked? Where? Who? Which key men are being hawked anywhere?

As fas as I can see, our business is well down the line according to Ange, no team has made an offer for any of our players, and Gia has "reportedly" knocked back a new deal. A new deal for all we know... His agent asked for, and they're currently haggling.

I always wondered why you got so much stick on here in the general. Why people accused your of being a mutant.

But to be perfectly honest, that post has zombie * dripping all over it. Complete hysterical nonsense, none of it based on FACTS, and most of it wishful thinking from Der Zombie.

Back to the topic at hand.

The notion that somehow DD woke up one morning and was seized by a fit of self harm, called up Lawell and instructed him to put his suit back on and come back and * in everyone's cornflakes is absolutely * ridiculous.

I'll say it again for the MILLIONTH time. Lawell has not, will not EVER run *. He's got DDs fist so far up his * that you can see his rings when Lawell talks.
Lawell has been brought in for one of two reasons, either a last wee payday for one of the boys, or to help negotiate the club through what is obviously a fast changing climate in European football. His contacts on the continent are numerous, and for all we know, there's something afoot none of us are aware of yet.

Also he's replacing that * vampire Bankier.
A Tory * who sneered at us at every opportunity.
If it's a choice between Bankier, or even one of the other * on the board, I'd still choose Lawell.

Now please, can we stop acting like a bunch of * Huns and stop this spiv outrage?

    It's * laughable.

As long as he doesn't upset the Mick Nic and Ange party then he can do whatever he wants as far as I'm concerned. Keep him away from football activity as it's not his remit.

    He was making them money.

There was a quote from Desmond when Strachan left saying "he has improved us on and off the balance sheet".

To them on the board that's all that matters, now you can argue that they have a duty to shareholders to make them money but football is different from any other business. But year after year when faced with the choice of improving the team at the right time or protecting their bonuses they always chose themselves.
He was so consumed with his fat bonus that he couldn't see the bigger picture that champions league qualification would have put the entire club in a better financial position not just him and his pals

Why would a Hun be slating Lawwell? Look at their forums - they’re absolutely delighted at his return.

Any Hun would be acting exactly how the chief Hun accusers on here are acting - running around defending Lawwell and trying to convince everyone else not to panic about his return.

As for the contract point, watch any Open Goal interview with ex Celtic players. Ledley is a good one, he more or less says both him and Hooper were forced out, had terms changed etc.

It’s back to the Lawwell show now. That means one competent player in every position (if we’re lucky) - can’t have guys like Giakoumakis on the bench, when they can be sold for a decent wedge.
