I don't think we have to worry at all. Our club was in a mess from top to bottom, and since then he never even left.

Non executive chairman, hopefully more a figurehead than actually having any real say. Joke he's back though.

Don't be surprised when all our transfer links plod on for weeks without resolution before we eventually sign some haddie from Brighton on loan as a cheap replacement.

Was chief executive last time and that didn't stop him from thinking he was director of football and chief scout. * can't help himself

A few of our transfer links that are now in the squad plodded on for weeks, and we still went cheap at times going for the likes of Mooy. Tbh mate I wish he wasn't coming back at all but the initial reaction is predictably over the top.

It’s a bit like saying the pilot jumped out the plane 5 minutes ago and we still haven’t crashed, so everything’s fine.

He’s the chairman now, he has more influence today than he did yesterday. We don’t want his influence here.

This is the hope I’ll cling to but I’m not optimistic.

    While we can never know the true details of what goes on in the background at Celtic, I would say two things are almost indisputable;

    1. The way Lawwell was running Celtic was outdated and had long been holding Celtic back.
    2. He was industrious and heavily involved in every detail of the club (no bad thing).

The way things (appear to) have been running the past 18 months is markedly different from how they were run under Lawwell. It looks far more like the approach many supporters have agitated for.

If we now see moves which look like a return to Lawwell-ism, it's going to be very difficult to explain that away as unfortunate coincidence.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion. I would say there's been a huge under-reaction so far. It's just accepted at this club that things happen and .. 'meh'.

Regardless of opinion of Lawwell's record, it's clear there was huge discontent amongst the "customers" (cynically) about how the company was being run, and to back-door him back into a position of power once things are going well is yet another "Jobs for the boys / what can we get away with / * you" to the support. We should not be operating like this.

Not going to pretend I have any idea what impact this will have so I'll refrain from getting as upset as some.

Well we'll have to wait and see..

He had too much day to day control last time as CEO...from the outside looking in. We have Nicholson doing his old job now, and very well, his boy involved with our transfer dealings as well. All who have good relationships with Ange and have been working well together..

I'm hopeful also that he'll take more of a backseat..

Announcing it in the news isn't ushering him in the back door imo. Ultimately though, the board can pick whoever they want to be chairman and rightly or wrongly the fan base doesn't get a say in that. I do think the board make decisions without caring about how the fans will react, a board won't always make popular decisions. I hope as a N.E.D he does actually stay away from the day to day running of the club as he should do.

Regarding the two points you say are indisputable, I'm inclined to agree with you but like you admit we don't really know the details. The main area of concern for us seems to be how we performed in Europe, overly frugal transfer negotiations, and the second hiring of Lennon which eventually led to the Covid season. But to be balanced, we also won four trebles in a row, had an invincible season, and won the majority of league titles during his tenure, including 9 on the trot. I know the huns died but that's no one at Celtic's fault. I've already said I think his ship has sailed at Celtic, but I don't doubt he wants the best for the club.

Every * going bananas thinking the guy is intent on coming in as chairman to tear us apart from the inside :giggle1:

As if he's oblivious to the state he led us to as CEO....maybe he's smart enough to realise he * it. In fact, maybe that's why he stepped down? Mind = blown!

Calm your panties ya crackpots, he will have * all to do with contract negotiations or the day to day running of the club.
