    I thought it was very strange to not bring Maeda on. He may not be their best attacking threat, however his press and pace has the ability to change the dynamics of the game.

    Why the * do you “rest” 5 or 6 players for a game, against a weaker team, where a win would guarantee you qualification from the group?!
    They could have rested the whole team against Spain had they have won.
    Now they have to beat Spain to get through, so they’re truly *!

    Can't remember the last time i seen such a useless manager. It's fascinating how bad he is both when it comes to selections of squads, and his tactical ability. Wow.

    Up there with Gerrard / Beale.

    Feel sorry for the Japanese lads being lumped with a manager who is so inconsistent. Probably the best Japanese talent ever, a golden generation, and they are wasted by this manager.

    Said it before the WC started that Japan would knock off one of the big boys, purely because of the talent in their squad, but this manager can’t put together a team that is cohesive week in week out. They should have easily progressed after beating Germany, now they have a monumental task.

    Against Spain, Daizen needs to start, I thought the Spanish were a bit prone to mistakes with an organized press.

    Agree with all the statements above.

    Moriyasu is an absolute clown. Makes 5 changes to a team that beat Germany in a world cup, gets duffed by a poor Costa Rica side playing with a back 5... And STILL comes out and says "I got it right".

    His "play the odds" bullshit is utterly redundant in a cup competition, where momentum is EVERYTHING.

    But his comments regarding Kyogo and Hatate pre WC should have been a red flag. He only wanted passionate players?

    Regarding Kyogo, he left him out of the squad because "he's too much of an individualist".

    The man is a proper *.

    If Morocco were pitted against them, that would have been an even matchup. Japan are 2 out of 2 as the underdog, but blew up the game as a favorite. Croatia are considered the favorite, but Modrić and Perišić have had no rest. I'm honestly not putting bets on Croatia if both play from the start.
