Aye mate wee Strachan and O’Neill put a lot of emphasis on defenders being big strong and physical and not shy of a crunching tackle, if they could actually play a bit was a bonus, no overlapping wing backs, win the ball then give it to a petrov, moravcik naka or mcgeady to create a bit of magic for the striker s, the continental team s like ac Milan, juventus, Barcelona, even your man United and Liverpool didn’t fancy it, that said agathe would bomb forward from time to time, fastest player I’ve ever seen

 

Tbf both were quite good. I just wouldn't have expected them at all.

 

We will have to learn how to play the VAR,,, they got 2 pens with it , wether we like it or not.

 

Unfortunately we will never beat teams like Madrid playing the Celtic way. With our budget the only chance is parking the bus and hoping the keeper has a worldie.

Disappointing as the result was it was expected. There was a few poor individual performances however we stuck to our style of play against one of the best and seasoned club teams in the world. So we can be proud of that. Huns are trying to laugh at us for that result however, for any Hun lurkers, here is a stat for you. We had 8 shots on target against Real Madrid at their mighty stadium, that is 4 less than The Huns 12 for all of their 6 games . Now that's a stat.

 

We need defenders that will take no prisoners and aren’t afraid of their own shadows

Honestly my assessment of that game is probably different to most but I thought we played well all tournament. This game was no different but we do lack cutting edge and quality at this level. Real looked like a team who had something to play for and we gave a good account whilst also not having any real self belief to get a result in there.

For me, we have a lot to salvage from what was ultimately a disappointing finish on paper. Learn from those mistakes and qualify again next season while adding to the quality of the team and we could turn a lot of those performances into victories.

Anyway, I digress. Away in Madrid meeting Tims upon Tims, sharing stories, backgrounds and laughs with them and locals from Spain. Fantastico.

We have had more than our fare share of opportunities but never took them which is lethal at this level. We created several chances against the holders tonight in their own ground which, once again, proved fatal and gave away two silly goals. We should have beaten Shaktar in Poland but never and their freak result in the first game against Leipzig meant we were always going to need to win two games. Still, I'm proud of my team and if we get a few quality signings in then I think we will continue to improve at this level and I can't wait till next year.

 

I think realistically we can only expect to do something in the Europa or Conference, sad to face but that's the level we're at just now, unless we spend bigger on a better level of player nothing will change.
