Passing wasn’t up to scratch last night, but I felt he suffered from Kyogo playing. Hatate is at his best when he makes runs and gets in behind the opposition full back, but I can’t really remember him making that type of run at all last night. I think that was because with Kyogo playing in pretty much a free role, it meant Hatate had to be far more disciplined or it would have left O’Riley totally exposed.

He’s a raw talent (yeesh there’s that word again)

Emphasis on ‘talent’ though. He’s exactly the type of midfielder we need and I expect him to be an integral part of our midfield for the foreseeable, along with Callum.

It’s this for me our starting 3 CMs are all capable of giving us at least an hour of good play. Hatate puts so much into games he tends to tire really badly. We need another box to box option to replace him at that point and rotate with him throughout the season.

In addition Turnbull has had his injuries but I am not convinced he is what we need as an alternative to O’Riley or Turnbull, I would sell particularly if he won’t sign a new deal.

All of our McGregor alternatives haven’t shown enough yet McCarthy, Ideguchi, Mooy and Abildgaard. Unless their is a big improvement in McCarthy, Ideguchi or Abildgaard then we need a more energetic deep lying centre mid to rotate with McGregor in place of those 3. Mooy is useful domestically but not in Europe.

So that’s 3 new CM in place of 4 we have the now. That is before we talk about O’Riley who will likely leave and need replaced too. So could be 4 in for 5 out.

Needs CalMac in the midfield with him again! Free's him ap a little and he has a reliable passer in there with him. It's all a bit messy in there atm.

Similar could be said for O'Riley.

Absolutely gutted for him and Kyogo. As much as we should be happy that they get time to rest up. It hard not seeing players who brought us so much joy last season miss out on what no doubt was their dream.

If Hatate is a raw talent I dread to think how good he will be when he's cooking. Unreal technique.

Crazy he or Kyogo never got picked but better for us, less chance of injury and they’ll be fresh for December.

Madness he never made it out the 3 of them..

Can play about 4/5 position's, a goalscorer/creator and been in excellent form overall..

Even if it was just for half hour tops here and there..

Their loss is our gain though..

Yeah gutted for Hatate and Kyogo. There must be helluva amount of talent in that Japanese squad.
However Maeda getting picked will bode well for future players from Japan coming to Celtic.

Am I wrong in thinking their midfield is pretty stacked relatively speaking?

No, they have a stacked midfield not surprised at all he didn't get picked. Will get his shot next world cup, will be in his prime by then. Very surprised kyogo isn't in the squad though when in top form he is the best Japanese st imo by a long way as well. the manager has never liked him though for some reason. gutted for him, probably his last chance considering he will be 31 by the next world cup.

I can't say I know a lot about Japanese players overall but I'd have thought the idea of having guys like Kyogo, Minamino and Kubo would be a fantastic dynamic 3

Totally agree. Amazed that both Hatate and Kyogo are supposedly not good enough to make a 26 man squad for Japan but like you say fine by me given the insane schedule due to this * world cup finals a rest for the 2 is good for us.

Think he was only capped once for Japan and that was after joining us. He was never getting a look in with such limited game time for Japan.

But if he keeps improving with us then it will hard for Moriyasu to overlook him.
