I don't think he is a bad player, I think he needs a break. His confidence has been shot. Needs a bit of time as an impact sub than an out am out starter

I've been his biggest supporter but last night it clicked for me - you just can't have an attacking player in the starting 11 who can't score. Yes his defensive contribution is good but filling an attacking berth in the XI with a player who's job is to defend? That's not Angeball

He looked uncomfortable yesterday, but what to expect of an guy we brought in from J-League for a million quid though? It's chump change in the football world. He was brought in as a squad rotation player to offer us squad depth first and foremost. He will probably never be an impact player for us in Europe, but an alternative for us when injuries hit us like it has done now with Jota out.

He's not been at his best but I think he's been singled out a bit unfairly for not scoring over the last few weeks, our more naturally talented finishers have been missing plenty of 'easy' chances over the same period and not getting it half as tight as maeda has been.

Empty shirt means he’s not doing anything at all which is bullshit, his defensive work and pressing is huge so there’s no doubting his work ethic. He’s just short of confidence same as the rest of our front line.

Realistically, the only Europe-proven goalscorer Japan have ever produced is Shinji Okazaki. They produce great full backs, creative midfielders, decent wingers, but not goalscorers. Maeda should be converted to a wing back, a la Agathe.

That isn't a bad shout. Maeda would be far more useful to us as a wing back in Europe than a winger or striker.

IIRC, someone tried to use Cha Du-ri as a striker earlier in his career, but he was switched to a wing back. The similarities between him and Maeda are many.

Funny enough my bro and I talked about it last night. Maybe he'll be decent as a wing back.

On Saturday against St Johnstone. He played a ball into our penalty box and nearly laid it on a plate for their striker. He's no more a wing back than he is a goal scorer. He's a middle distance runner maskerading as a footballer

The coaching team need to put the hours in with this lad.

The work rate, speed and stamina are all there but he really needs to work on his decision making, first touch, passing and finishing.

If he wants to improve, he should be at Harry Kewell for dedicated 1-1 sessions before or after training.

If he’s to convert to a wing back then his intelligence and final ball need to improve dramatically

    You can't help thinking that.
