Nice shot in the Unique Angle video of him falling to his knees as the final whistle blew on Saturday. Shows how much the club means to the lad.

 

He went in to block the clearance. He was nowhere near the player

 

It goes both ways. There are some who will blindly defend him when he makes mistakes, simply due to the fact that he came through the youth system and is “one of us”, while they give pelters to Starfelt (a far superior defender) for far less.

Welsh is a player with potential but he badly needs to be better in the air and cut out the rash challenges and positional mistakes.

Funnily enough though not a lot of those types on this board or on social media.

I personally could care less how a player arrives at our club so long as they give their all for us. Starfelt, Welsh and Jenz all have areas they could improve upon, Stephen is the youngest with the most room to grow and under Ange's guidance that's exactly what I expect we will see him do.

 

Starfelt has a mistake in him but overall he is superior to Welsh imo.

If Welsh wasn’t already at Celtic I couldn’t see Ange going out and signing him

 

Welsh is 22 and just starting to break into regular first team football, Starfelt is 27 and years into his senior career. Him being overall suprior to Welsh is not suprising and nor does it mean Welsh isn't worthy of playing at Celtic. Thankfully Ange understands football well enough to know that CB tend to come into their own a little later and sees that potential in Welsh.

I wonder how many preprepared "not good enough get him sold" posts had to be shelved last Wednesday when the lad actually rose to the occasion and had a good game.

 

By having a good game, you mean he wasn’t anything special but didn’t make any rememberable mistakes? They technically scored 5 goals so I wouldn’t be quick to praise any of the back line.

You’re right, thankfully Ange does know football enough so that when Starfelt is fit, Welsh doesn’t get game time.

 

How many of those 5 goals was Welsh at fault for?

This is the perfect example of the kind of petty jealousy driven bitterness that is so often aimed at the academy boys. Wee men who can't handle other lads living their dream lining up to take cheap pot shots.

It’s called having an opinion, I rate Starfelt more than Welsh, get over it. Are you jealous of Starfelt?

 

When I have I slated Starfelt or said that I don't think he is easily our first choice to partner CCV?

Why do you assume that it is a slight on Carl to point out that Welsh doesn't deserve to be torn down and written off when he makes a poor choice in a game and that comparing his ability to that of a 27 year old experienced centre back isn't a fair comparison?

Isn't it possible to support all our CBs in a fair and ballanced way?

I don’t question his bravery, but he’s a brutally bad defender. Nowhere near the level required.

 

Both him and Turnbull needs replaced imo. Even as squad players they are not good enough imo. But they are not alone. There are a few more.
