Look at Foster's track record. He rides on the backs of others to get where he wants to be.

The only gripe I have with Slater was how he and Bosnich were so critical of Ange on tv during Ange's time as manager of the Socceroos on the road to Russia. Am referring to Ange's decision to drop 4-4-3 after the Thailand game away and go with 3/5/2 - they were not happy with that. They still went to Russia and Ange got them there in that marathon campaign, under trying conditions I might add.

At present Haksabanovic, rather than Maeda, seems more likely to score, given the chances he gets. Maeda is more a worker/provider rather than a finisher, and has a great engine.

i dont think this should be given any more oxygen.

    no publicity, no noteriety.

whether the clubs want to admit it or not, there is an element of far right supporters who support the Croatian clubs in Australia. it is not just Sydney Croatia (aka Sydney United aka Sydney United 58).

i agree with the clubs right to exist, and that the far right supporters have the right to support the club of their choice. I would also support these clubs being promoted to the A-League if we ever get around to bringing in promotion and relegation.

I exercise my right to support a different club.

Interesting comments and insights from Jullien:

"Even though I didn't play last season and it was complicated on a human level with coach Ange Postecoglou, I learned a lot. He is a coach who relies a lot on video and who tries to get into the opponent's head.

"Thanks to this, I realised that when you push the opposing team to do exactly what they don't want, you can outwit them to an unimaginable extent. It's like playing chess. If the opposing team can't find a parry, you're in for a treat.

"That's why I think I've become more tactically savvy. But I always try to improve on this aspect."

Good to hear the tactical and video analysis stuff.

It must be amazing for Ange being able to go to Japan and now here where he can use video analysis.

I don’t think they have any type of moving pictures yet down in Australia.

There is obviously a lot of Australia based fans that regularly comment in the Ange Thread, I am generally interested in hearing thoughts on the events that happened In Australia at that football match.

Ange Postecoglou insists he’s always trying to uphold the Celtic values of Jock Stein.

And the current Parkhead manager admits he’s standing on the icon's shoulders in attempting to do so. Postecoglou ’s team face RB Leipzig tonight 100 years to the day since the club’s greatest-ever manager and 1967 European Cup-winning boss was born. The Aussie, who is without quartet Cameron Carter Vickers, Carl Starfelt, Liel Abada and Aaron Mooy for the Champions League tie in Germany, is inspired by Stein’s incredible achievements.

He said: “He’s one of those figures that exists in football, where his impact on a football club goes beyond just the success. It was about the way the team played, the way they conducted themselves, the connection the team had with the fans and the connection he had with the fans. So, he’s one of those figures that even though his record was unbelievable, it goes beyond that. For guys like me, you’re not so much following in his footsteps as standing on his shoulders and trying to uphold, hopefully, those values.

“I obviously want to bring success to this football club, that’s my aim, but I also want to uphold those values in terms of the way we play our football, understanding what our supporters mean to the football club and all those kinds of things which I think were just as important to Jock Stein.

“His feats in terms of success are unquestionable, particularly with winning the European Cup and his domestic dominance. But I think his legacy goes way beyond that. It can potentially become a burden if you try to emulate his feats because I don’t think anyone is going to get there.

“The spirit in which he managed this football club, the way he got the team to play, I’m really big on that. I’ve said from day one, I want us to be a team that people talk about, not just because of our success, but because of the way we play our football.

“I think that is what that Celtic team embodied. They were exciting to watch irrespective of whether you were a follower of the club or a follower of Scottish football, everyone in the world knew that when Celtic played the football they played it was worth a watch. That’s what I want to try to create with us.”

Postecoglou doesn’t need to go over past footage of Stein’s team to know their brilliance as he added: “I was well versed in it anyway, because they are one of those clubs that historically people always bring up when they talk about major accomplishments and a style of football, that’s one of the teams.

“So I was always well versed in it, but the beauty of this football club is that you are never too far away from it, there are people who are still there from that era who will remind you of it, it’s written on the walls and you just feel it in the air what this football club is about.”

Asked if being inspired by Stein makes him such a good fit for Celtic, Postecoglou said: “Maybe, I think there is definitely an alignment there in the way I want our team to play and the way I want us to connect with our fans that resonates well.

“I’ve certainly felt, for me, it’s been an easy transition into understanding the football club, because a lot of those values are really close to my heart anyway.,

“It’s been easy for me to understand and try to get us on a road that I believe the fans of this football club want us to be.”

ANGE POSTECOGLOU will tonight seek Celtic’s first ever win in Germany inspired by Jock Stein.

Celtic’s greatest ever manager was born 100 years ago on Wednesday and his Parkhead legacy will live on forever.

European Cup and nine-in-a-row winning manager Stein died in 1985.

Every Parkhead boss who has followed in his massive footsteps has done so in the full knowledge of the remarkable period of success he achieved.

Postecoglou – poised for his third Champions League Group F game against RB Leipzig in the Red Bull Arena – sure needs no reminding of the Stein-Lisbon Lions era.

The Celts boss – without Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liel Abada and Aaron Mooy this evening – said in tribute of Stein: “His feats in terms of success are unquestionable, particularly with winning the European Cup and his domestic dominance.

“But I think his legacy goes way beyond that.

“He’s one of those figures that exists in football, where his impact on a football club goes beyond just the success.

“It was about the way the team played, the way they conducted themselves, the connection the team had with the fans and the connection he had with the fans.

“So, he’s one of those figures that even though his record was unbelievable, it goes beyond that.

“But I also want to uphold those values in terms of the way we play our football, understanding what our supporters mean to the football club - and all those kinds of things which I think were just as important to Jock Stein.”

Asked about Stein’s scale of success being daunting, Postecoglou said: “I think it can potentially become a burden if you try to emulate his feats - because I don’t think ANYONE is going to get there.

“But the spirit in which he managed this football club, the way he got the team to play, I’m really big on that.

“Everyone in the world knew that when Celtic played the football they played it was worth a watch.

“That’s what I want to try to create with us.”

Postecoglou grew up fully aware of Celtic’s most fabled team captained by Billy McNeill.

He said: “I was well versed in it anyway.

“They are one of those clubs that historically people always bring up when they talk about major accomplishments and a style of football.

    “That’s one of the teams.

“The beauty of this football club is that you are never too far away from it.

“A lot of those values are really close to my heart anyway.”

Carter-Vickers could return for McDiarmid Park while Israeli Abada will also be available again after respecting Yom Kippur.

Tactically I'm concerned. We are far too open at times.

Before McGregor went off he was marking about 3 players at one point.

I get he wants to play a high press but we commit far too many men forward. Couple of passes through the press and they're breaking on to our centre backs.

It makes for an exciting game but we're always going to give away goals against good teams playing that way.

Just can’t get enough Depeche mode
Time to change it up old champ

Inverted full backs are leaving us outnumbered 5-2 at the back and realistically what benefits are there having Taylor in the middle of the park?

    Maeda is just burning calories

Kyogo has won a couple of decent headers but other than that, can’t get in the game

Abildgaard has been flung in the deep end

Hart has been decent at closing them down as our defence is awful

Won't say anything else until the game is finished, but the way we're playing suits Leipzig to a tee.

The set up in Europe is the worst I’ve ever seen. He has it totally wrong with regards to the middle of the park.
