He’s won me over in recent years, but to say he’s better than McStay is * laughable.

What is it with these loonballs in the support who always have to appear to rate a player more than others?

Do they think it makes them a better supporter, or something?

Loved the Maestro and am a huge fan of McGregor. Hugely impressed with his ability to take on the captain mantle from such a great captain as Brown and not skip a beat. Overall for me though the Maestro was a level above McGregor although both top players.

    Over hyping????

Behave yourself. He's widely regarded as one of the greatest players to ever play for our club.

Aye, he’s overrated. Some fans go on about him as if he was prime Matthaus.

Youve never seen him play and if you have your not watching football right.

Only people in the whole world of football you hear claim mcstay was overrated are huns

Tbf mate most Huns rated mcstay highly that I know, you don’t get picked in the greatest celtic 11 ever if you are overated, your getting picked in midfield over Lisbon lions, hes also picked when naming Scotland s greatest 11 ever and he deserved to be cause he was an absolute legend, 1 thing I would say about mcstay though he wasn’t captain material, was to quiet a personality and didn’t really have that fist pumping vocal aggression of guy’s like brown Roy aitken McNeill and the likes, he admits himself, loved big Aitken behind him spurring him on and felt a bit lost when he was the man that had to do that, so would give mcgregor hes probably got more qualities as a captain than mcstay, wouldn’t have pictured mcstay doing what mcgregor did in last 5 minutes v Motherwell to basically secure the 3 points

Can't disagree with any of that mate.

McStay struggled with being the responsibility of being captain particularly during such a horrible time for the club.

It was actually an accusation that was levelled at Mcgregor too before last season. He has really thrived on it and is doing a superb job.

Where would you place him? Where you around in his era?

I was never a big McStay fan but he was a good player in a team of early 90's diddies. He would have thrived under Rodgers and Ang though

I've been surprised at how far McGregor seems to come on as captain tbh, he's really grown into the role. I'd still rank them both behind Broony as captains however. Not just because of Broony's undeniable on-pitch presence but because what every player says about his influence off-pitch also.

Think comparing Cal and McStay is a hard one. Different eras, different style of CM, different players round about them.

McStay was before my time but from what I’ve seen and heard he could have played for most teams in Europe. I hold Cal in the same regard, he’s consistently the best player on the field against the top sides, especially since becoming captain.

McStay would have thrived in todays game no doubt, but I reckon McGregor would have been just as good back then.

its hard to judge players from different eras, you have to try and imagine how well they would do in each other time period. now i think mcgregor is brilliant but there is no way he would be as successful playing in the sides mcstay did against a much higher standard of player ,where you werent the dominant team and could of had your leg broke while pondering your next pass .how would mcstay do today ? he would have been sold to southampton a long time ago

I’ve seen him play and I’m comfortable that I’m watching football ‘right’. Folk just have different opinions and that’s fine.

    Shocking from him tbh.

Touch was abysmal and then doesn’t commit the foul but instead assists the goal.

So brutal that he’s now ended up injuring himself as well.

A nightmare for us if he's out for a sustained period..

Definitely poor yet again on this stage and should've prevented a goal. Your captain should be taking the hit..

He done it at the weekend when he was a guaranteed red fucksake..
