It’s been decent. Plenty of room for improvement.

Considering the budget some of the CGI is really *

    Caught up with this.

Going from House of the Dragon to this, the drop off in quality is massive.

    Just painfully average so far.

I’m a major Tolkien fan, I’ve read everything, even the boring * like History of Middle Earth. Which is basically scholar debates about the notes he left that are better.

And I think people are being massive * about this series.

I might be naive here, but I think there’s a lot of good set up that could be brilliant.

I’m hoping it makes good on it, a slow burner for sure, but it could still be great.

I’m really enjoying it so far but there is a lot of style over substance so far

Yeah this is really losing me, feels like 5 episodes of filler so far.

Liked the last episode referring to the Silmarillion. I’ve enjoyed it so far.

The dialogue is painfully bad at times. Just getting to the end of episode 3 and it’s slow going.

I think it has stayed somewhat faithful to the lore and visually it’s very nice, but considering the money spent you’d think they could hire some half decent writers. Anyone unfamiliar with the Appendices or The Silmarillion etc won’t have a clue what’s actually going on. Pacing is all over the place.

Just caught up with it today, feels like a lot of build up so far, but I guess they can afford to take their time knowing they have five seasons and don't have to pull big twists early on to bring in viewers or it'll get cancelled before it's started. Trying to keep an open mind knowing how much they're having to invent here and fill in the gaps outside of the major events, but also condensing the timeline massively to make it work over the course of five seasons of a tv show, they're going to be taking massive liberties.

I'm enjoying Elrond's casting more than I thought I would, but not sure I'm really getting onboard with the 'young' and brash version of Galadriel they're going for here. To put them in context for those who haven't read any of this, Galadriel has at least 1000 years on Elrond and he marries her daughter eventually, but the way they come off it's like they're old friends and he's the wise head to her wreckless muppet. It just feels off.

I'm sort of torn between wishing they had the rights to The SIlmarillion or not, Amazon has infinitie money and there's so much epic stuff they could show on screen that by scale would make LOTR look like a school play, but I also don't trust the writers not to make it boring as *.

Since game of thrones made incest and dragons so popular in the mainstream, I'm surprised they didn't try to get the rights to make The Children of Hurin into a series. It's a much more fleshed out narrative that would be more easily adapted.

It's by far from perfect but I'm actually loving the show now.

Durin and Elrond relationship is the best part of the show and if you have watched lord of the rings you just know what’s coming as they delve deeper and deeper in khazadum/ Moria

Finally I think it has picked up on Episode 6.

Couple of points...i complained about the CGI in a previous post, but i also just watched the last 2 Hobbit movies. They have not aged well at all already...terrible wigs and nativity scene back drops.

This on the other hand other than a dodgy warg scene has been miles better in effects.
The orks look better than hobbit orks but not as good a LOTR orks.
It has gotton a bit more graphic, not GoT levels but enough to make it a welcome thing.
Galadriel scrubs up well in a suit of armour and could do terrible thigns to me :giggle1:.
I kind of want Adar to come out winning :39:
Galadriel going on about wiping out Adars kind to his face....oooo racist :giggle1:.
I know it will have to dip for the story here and there but if it keeps the pace it built in Ep 6 then it is on to a winner.

Didn't like that last episode tbh. Just thought the battle was completely underwhelming. Halbrand is also pretty suss aswell btw going by some of his interactions in that episode. Not convinced he's an Aragorn type character.

The last scene was pretty interesting though.

Was about to give up but Episode six finally peaked it up and changed it. Action has kicked in at last

That episode for me was better than anything house of the dragon has produced since it started

Can’t believe I saw that last episode getting a 10/10 from an outlet. Even the battle scenes were boring. It’s just so average.

Couldn’t disagree more with the post above. The weakest HotD episode is still on another level compared to this series.

    The writing is awful.

Yeah the writing is amateurish at times, the amount of near death tropes in this episode was hilarious, like every ten minutes someone nearly died only to be saved at the last second. And don't get me started on the item swap they did, they had that package in thier possession and no one bothered to open it??
I thought the battle was disappointing too tbh, wasn't exactly large scale like I thought it would be.
The main issue with the show aside from the writing is the characters just aren't likeable particularly galadriel whos a stone faced cow all the time. Infact Adar is by far the best and most well written character in the show and he's an original creation for the show only apparently so fair play for that I guess.
