    But, let me see if I have got this thing straight;

Good technically player, with a good touch.
    1.77 m (5 ft 9<s style="display: none;">+</s>1<big>⁄</big>2 in) height, but powerful in the air.
    A leader type.

    How fast is he?

Glenn Loovens is reportedly set to join Celtic after Cardiff agreed a fee of £3 million for the Dutch defender.

don't you just hate so called reporters who say / write " reportedly " just in case they're wrong

He was part of the feyenoord squad who won the Uefa cup in 2001/02 So I think he will be able to make that step up.

Just cause he has not played at that level before does not mean he is not good enough.

I could name a lot of players who in their first stint in the CL did very well

Like i said earlier dont think hes better than what we have but will no doubt be a good addition to the squad not the same appeal as a player like Tamas or Basa!
Good luck to the bhoy all the same!!

I like him, but thats just me. He seems like a bit of a cool customer, a real calm defender (he is Dutch after all). He was outstanding vs Middlesbrough in the FA cup last year.

The huns probably sold Cuellar because they thought they had this guy. So that makes it even sweeter.

What like the huns did with flo? Or us with scheidt? Juninho? Gravesen? Are you meaning tried and tested internationals like them?

Come on mate you have to get your call to the national team from somewhere. I would stick a bet on Loovens being in the Dutch team if we get to the last 8 of CL

good luck to him, Dont know who hes going to replace, because 3 million is alot for back-up defender. I mean McManus wont be dropped, hes Captain,Caldwells doing good at the moment

I know little about Loovens and hope he turns out to be a 1st class CB for Celtic.

One thing that is for certain is Loovens was not our top target, Tamas & Bassa were obviously targets before him perhaps if reports are to believed so were Stranzl, Simic, Maulding and they are the only ones we know about.

Nothing against Loovens at all but our world wide scouting network is not exactly baring fruit. He may well turn out to be an inspired signing for Celtic but at this moment I am torn. Surely Loovens is a player we should have identified long ago, he is not exactly playing in an obscure league. This looks like another case of one up man ship, a Rangers target being hijacked to paradise.

Correct me if I am wrong but was the Stranzl deal not similar to this one, from my memory he was out of contract in a year but Spartak would have let him go for 3 mill at the start of the window?

If it was a similar deal I wonder why we decided to knock it back as for me an experienced international CB would have been a safer bet than an inexperienced Championship CB.

Don’t get me wrong I have limited knowledge of Loovens and I hope he turns out to be a first class CB for Celtic good luck to him.

Exactly not many of us know much about him. To be fair did we know a lot about Tamas or Bassa?

Come on give the lad a chance. If he has a league winners medal in his hand at the end of the season (or December LOL) then he is a good signing for me

If reports are correct and he signs mate then I think everyone will give him their 100% backing. Also at only 24 he will improve so if he is decent now then in a couple of year´s time, we may have a real Gem.

However I am just a little confused as to when this guy came on to our radar, it seems he is not the first choice signing in fact he may not even be 4th or 5th choice, that disapoints me quite a bit if I am honest.

I've seen him 3 or 4 times on tv and i've thought every time he's looked assured and composed.

I'll reserve full judgement on him til he comes up but he'll have a job splitting the 2 that are there just now no matter what anyone says!

just looking at the Cardiff City forums. they are gutted to lose him and think he will be a regular Dutch international. they go onto say that he only ever looked weak because of his partner was poor and left him exposed many times.

downside is that some of them think its a step backwards moving to Scotland. aye right, because he would of reached his, as one Bluebird said, 'undeniable' potential rotting in the Championship. at least with us he will have the chance to play against some of the worlds best.
