He won't go, he'll never go, he's here for European trophies and 30 in a row before handing over the reigns to Harry Kewell

Yes, Potter was a breath of fresh air once he signed for Brighton, with his progressive ideas and he improved the team squad and the style of play and the team has progressively climbed up the ladder since his appointment.

He also got rid of keeper Mat Ryan, which was a good thing in my opinion. He also needs to make way as first choice keeper for the Australian national team. This will be his last World Cup. Mitch Langerak is a much better keeper in my opinion but since playing in Japan, he has excluded himself from selection for the national team. I would have done the same after being understudy to Ryan for years and playing only one game in all that time. He was excellent in that game as well.

My read on this at the time was that there were quite a few nerves in the squad across the first half. Some of the younger lads especially seemed to be fluffing passes that they would normally make. You can't really blame them for that, it's a young squad and playing at a level previously unknown to them. It might also explain the drop off in activity in the second half as that big adrenaline rush can tire you out.

Totally agree. Very young to deal with momentus moments like this without having an effect. Think back to when you were a 20 year old - how well would you have dealt with such an occasion ? I do not think I would be calm, the nervousness and then the adrenalin would be doing weird things to my mind and body in the first 20 minutes in such a ground and in such an important game against a legendary club like Real Madrid.

Kevin Muscat, ex-Rangers, took over as manager from Ange at Yokohama Marinos. Apart from being team mates at South Melbourne and both having played for the national team, they had also worked at Melbourne Victory. Ange as coach and Muscat as his assistant. When Ange took on the national team job, Muscat got the job at M.Victory.

Muscat has followed on with 'Angeball' at Y.Marinos but he is not Ange . Some may think that Muscat may be the natural successor to Ange at Celtic. I am not one of them.

Both men have different personalities. Also Celtic would never employ an ex-Rangers player.

Personally I would not like it to happen. I hate the guy immensely. He was a brutal thug in his playing days and he did not have to be because he could play good football . I believe he simply took pleasure in badly hurting other players.

He was a thug, plain and simple. A butcher who ended who knows how many careers and it used to make me feel ill any time he represented Australia. :99:

There is no chance, none, whatsoever that he would be allowed anywhere near this football club. Nevermind that he used to play for deadco, everything that he stood for as a player is the antithesis of the culture and philosophy as what Celtic represents. And there is no way anyone at Celtic would want anything to do with that *. No way, no chance, never, ever!

I need a shower now, feel dirty from the vile thought of that utter scumbag. :47:

Waste of Energy! He will be linked with everything after the way we play, and the time in which he implemented it.

He's not going but we will have anxiety from.now on in, every team that lose a a manager.

We had this same constant ‘threat’ of an epl club taking MON right through his time at Celtic … every club in crisis and needing a solid name was going to take him from us…

… never got close to happening.

    Let them waste their breath.

Brighton are looking at a number of options. The club have been interested by the achievements of Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou who won a Scottish league title in his first season and took the club into the Champions League.

It is understood that the Australian is not currently minded to abandon the project he began with the Scottish club. The Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper is not an option currently, although he has been mentioned in connection with the job.

We pressed, but it was more controlled pressing under certain conditions, as opposed to the balls-to-the-wall pressing we do domestically. I'd have to watch the game back, but I think we were trying to channel them out wide, at which point we'd look to press in numbers. That's how their first goal came, where the ball went to their RB area, which triggered Taylor to rush forward, and they played right through us as we struggled to get back. It took some quality one-touch passing for them to do that though.

I heard a stat that the ball was in play for 67 minutes out of the 90 this match, where on average it's somewhere around 55 minutes. There weren't a lot of fouls, throw-ins, stoppages, etc., which probably goes some way to explaining why our players tired relatively early in the second half. Added to that, the players were just generally being asked to do an awful lot of work, because we were looking to engage Madrid high up the pitch, but when they played through our lines, we were quickly recovering back to drop into a kind of mid-block. And then when we won the ball, we were really direct, looking to get back up the pitch quickly (Jota especially looked to struggle with the workload). All of that combined is a lot of work, and when the ball is in play for an unusually high amount of time, it's pretty much unsustainable against a quality opponent, especially one who can control things and move you around like Madrid can.

Having said that, I thought we were great that first half. The way we were set up was spot on to give a top team numerous problems, as evidenced by the chances we created. I think deploying a coherent strategy for the full 90 mins against better competition in Europe is still a work in progress, but the signs are promising.

What remains to be seen is if he can go beyond Rodgers in Europe. Hopefully Wednesday will be a good start on that.

For many, the PSG game seems to be imprinted in their memory as symbolising Rodgers’ CL stints. However, it’s forgotten that the type of performance we had against Madrid the other night was similar to the Bayern, Barca and Man City games we had under him.

The task is to start getting results against these teams rather than just grand performances, which I suppose we did get against Man City.

These grand performances need to propel into results against Shakhtar and Leipzig or it will all be relatively futile like it was a few years back.

    Agree with both of you.

Its interesting reading the Real's fans take on the game. In general, many said Celtic were naive-all out attack, the game is played over 90 minutes, not 50 etc . ( If McGregor scores, they'd be saying otherwise haha)

That's where a player who can control the pace of the game is invaluable. Mooy gets criticized for his lack of pace and slowing the game down but he never loses it and he never misses a pass, and that gives his team mates an opportunity to recover. McGregor, Hatate and O'Reilly are the same type of player and I don;t think they vary the tempo of the play-its always looking to go forward at speed, playing the riskier pass etc. It might be great to watch but it's unsustainable over 90 minutes at the top level.

Postecoglou isn't going anywhere this season or next. After that, well....

From the perspective of "you get what you pay for" Real are miles ahead.

From the perspective of "football is always 11 v 11", we are a * of a lot closer to them than we deserve to be (financially). Just further evidence of what an amazing job Ange is doing recruiting, structuring and inspiring his team.

Yeah, I am likewise looking forward to seeing how it all plays out with the other teams in the group and Madrid when we play them again

Whilst I do not see Ange leaving us for Brighton it does make me question why he hasn't been secured on a long term contract?

Is he still on a rolling contract, surely it's time to put a decent long-term contract to him?

I'm pretty sure he is on the type of contract he wants to be on. If he wanted a long term one Celtic would have given him one.
