I don't really get that attitude. Obviously we're not going to win the CL but I'd rather see us get to the last 16 using shrewd tactics than get dumped out because we won't shift from one way of playing. It's like I said, the purpose of the game is to win, not to play a specific tactic at all costs.

I get what you're saying about setting up differently but it's only different within a given set of parameters. We all pretty much know what to expect out of the team tonight, as will RM.

I am actually fairly optimistic about tonight even though I don't expect us to win. But I can't help but think that every other game against top European opponents will be like the first Bayer game if we aren't more adaptable. I'd be pretty happy to play optimistically if we grabbed an early goal or two then defend the lead, but that's not really within our vocabulary.

After that first 45 minutes, I genuinely believed we could beat the Champions of Europe, our press was relentless and we were by far the better team. What If's with McGregor hitting the post and Maeda's early miss too.

Think 3-0 flatters Real Madrid tbh. This game is a night and day difference compared to the Bodo results. Played so much better.

Need to keep up that tempo when we face Shaktar next. They pumped Leipzig so they're a bit better than I was expecting, but there's no reason we can't match then.

 

Seems disappointed verging on annoyed. Interesting interview.

What he's done to this club has been unreal.

On any other night our chances could have go in and we'd have actually come out winners against the * title holders who have the most successful manager in this tournament.

All because of what Ange has instilled into the players...* unbelievable change

 

I think he's every right to be annoyed, the second half performance wasn't the best. You're never going to be happy losing 3-0 to anyone.

Another daft Aussie might have known.

 

We held our own for 60 minutes against a fantastic team littered with quality.

we are also set up to be a 60 minute side to crush teams domestically.

I thought we put a proper marker down tonight - the fact there is disappointment is, ironically, a positive.

We are playing a brand of football with an overall wage bill that defies our quality shown tonight.

I’m totally glass half full.

The only true downside tonight was the other result in the group. Personally, I saw enough that showed we have progressed quite significantly since the Brendan era.

we will play our football, we will do it our way, and we should enjoy it.

Other sides will not.

 

Could tell he wasn’t happy with the way we lost the goals, but there’s levels to this and he really wants us to be right up there. I’ve no doubt we’ll be an even better side after this lesson.

I go back to the day he was appointed.

I was in the indigo in Glasgow and it ruined my night, I got pished and ranted about this useless * all night.

Takes me back to the time we signed Larsson and I was ranting and raving in the Blarneystone pub about him being pish, and i hated him

My long illustrious record of not having a * clue goes on.

 

We are literally in 14 months of this process.

He's a class man and manager and has rebuilt this club from the foundations up. Can you imagine where we'll be in another 14 months?

He did extremely well and I'm delighted he's not satisfied with that.

 

The fact that myself and thousands more are annoyed / frustrated we never took something off the European champions says it all really. Imagine 14 months ago saying you would be * off you never beat or drew with real madrid lol. Let that sink in.

 

He should tell that to our Captain
