All the best Mikey. I hope you can kickstart your career again in Portugal, and come back
    the better for it.

That's a bigger move than he deserves tbh.

    Hope he does well.

MIKEY JOHNSTON revealed he took advice from Celtic teammate Jota before sealing a move to Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes.

The 23-year-old winger joined the top flight club on loan for the season and also signed a new contract extension with the Hoops on deadline day.

Vitoria currently sit in eighth place in the league and Johnston could make his debut away to Braga today after the move was completed.

And the former Scotland Under 21s international asked Hoops hero Jota for his thoughts before agreeing to move abroad.

He said: "I know Vitoria are a big club who plays in Europe a lot. I spoke to Jota from Celtic, who spoke very well of the club.

"It was an easy choice as soon as I heard about the club's interest. It's a big club, and so is the Portuguese League.

"When I heard about the possibility of coming here, I was very excited. I think it's a league that fits me well. It's more technical football, on which I base my style of play and I'm looking forward to getting started.

"I promise to always give my all and work hard to contribute to the team's success and score goals.”

"I'm a creative player, I like to dribble, I like to make things happen and score goals. In the dressing room, I’m hoping to be a good influence, I like to talk to everyone and I like to get along with everyone, I like a laugh too, so I can’t wait to meet everyone."

Johnston has made 18 league starts in five years for Celtic since his debut in 2017.

18 league starts in a possible over 100 games by the age of 23 is horrific

Hope he stays fit , he definitely has talent but obviously the injuries have been horrendous. Don’t think he’ll make it at Celtic but would like him to go on and have a good career .

Looks buzzing in the training videos Vitoria posted today, like a weight has been lifted off him. Still can't believe what a cracking loan deal the club sorted for him, hope he comes back to us a stronger player ready to step up. If not sure he will have success elsewhere.

Fingers crossed he can put a good run of games together, always a * to see a player with a decent amount of talent get ruined by injury.

Wonder why Celtic still haven’t acknowledged his loan move on social media or did I miss it?
