Trying to make out if he is a good signing but many comments here and in the rumours thread are just contradictory :D

The same guys claim he's more of an attacking player and hasn't played as a six, like what we need. Just to write in the next post that he's good at winning back balls and the physicality that we missed last season. :giggle1:

Guess, I just have to wait to see him play myself and trust Ange in his decision-making.

He's not getting into the first team 11 in the majority of our matches and rightfully shouldn't.Are you seriously asking if Hart improved our first team... in re: Mooy...

My comment stating 'did o riley improve our team when he signed, was he a starter? same with hart etc'

What I am saying is that when o' riley was signed i am sure fans thought why has a league one player been signed he wont be a regular in the first 11, the same with hard (why did we not sign fraser foster etc..hart is over the hill etc)... the same with mooy this week - a lot of fans seems unhappy with the signing ...' he's not getting in the first 11'. if mooy gets in and takes his chance he will start and rightfully so, a team that competes for all positions is a strong team with no passengers. I confident that mooy will do more in one season that mc carthy has done. but let us not right any players off before we even seem them over 5-10 games - aka look at o'riley he turned a number fans around quite quickly

on mooy - he gets round the pitch, 2 footed, can take a free kick, quite tenacious - give him 3 weeks to get up to fitness he will contribute to the team and seems a good player around the training ground - but yes a midfield physical enforcer in front of the back 4 is also required.

Unlikely I'd say. They'll feature on Saturday you'd imagine.

He’s been playing as an 8, a true box to box. So he’s good at attacking, he’s good at defending. He’s good at coming deep to pick the ball up and work it up field, but he’s also good at tackling, was just reading an article yesterday about how he was 2nd in the premier league for tackling after 9 games in his first season.

If you are still confused, page 8 of this thread has an interview with the Brighton assistant manager about him where he describes his all round game.

This is 100% it, for me - especially the bits in bold.

Signing Mooy in and of itself isn’t really an issue; it’s the fact that we now look quite unlikely to get a DM in, and that Mooy may have been the backup option to a target like Souza - a wholly different type of player and role altogether.
If true, that is laughably disappointing, and a throwback to the pre-Ange, ‘eenie meanie minie mo’/let’s see who we know transfer policy.

I think he'll be a decent player for us. Looks a well rounded and clever player with good footwork.

One thing that I think goes against him is his pace though. It's brutal.

The one thing I am sick hearing from folk on Celtic Channels and fan media is describing him as primarily a deep lying midfielder and will add a bit of steel or dig.

These people clearly have never watched Mooy playing and are basing this on an image or what they are hoping we are looking for.

Mooy if played deep and that is a big if, would offer someone good on the ball that can find a forward pass. Something at times our forward line have been crying out for. He will most likely be a rotation and experienced option with Turnbull, Hatate and ORiley. On occasion he may switch with McGregor.

Ideally I would have liked a more defensively sound midfielder who could progress the ball like Bazoer or Owusu. Who looked good on the ball but have good athleticism as well. Sadly it doesn’t look like we will get someone like that.

I do think we will sign at least another one or two with one being a forward player and the other I am not sure off.

On top of that, I've heard that Ange and Aaron have been "talking" for some time. On the one hand, you'd expect that as they worked together for years in the NT and Aaron has strong family links with Glasgow.

On the other hand, Ange may have been "talking" to him about coming to Celtic all along and that could even have been part of the reason Mooy refused to go back to China. Obviously neither could say anything publicly until the China contract was terminated.

So maybe he's not a lazy second option? Maybe he was a first option all along?

    I don't know, just speculating.

One valuable skill Aaron has is his ability to vary the tempo of the game. He can slow things down as needed and then take it up again.

Man, that was like drawing teeth. His actual answers were fine in the end, I suppose, but it’s just as well he isn’t a salesman, actor, life-coach, preacher or in any profession where you have to sound halfway interesting.
