    Will say, I'm glad it's now over, was dragging on majorly.

    No real issues with how we conducted our business, feel like we tried everything to convince him to join and we clearly waited, but if he's genuinely picked relegation candidates in Spain over us, then we move on.

    Seems like a probable bullet dodged now tbf. Of all the clubs reported to be looking at him, he's chose to go to one with seemingly no ambition and no chance of silverware or European competition.

    Meaning he's more than likely gone for the weather.

    Is a bit bizarre.

    If he's knocked back the likes of Brugge, us, Fenerbache and potentially even PSV, for the 14th best club in Spain.

    Can only think City have engineered it for a specific reason. Or he just really likes the idea of a year in Barcelona.

    In fairness he was playing on the Belgian second division, his stats looked so good because he was playing against plebs.
    Not saying he would have been a bad signing but I didn’t understand everyone being desperate to get him.
    Put any of our midfielders in that league and their stats would be amazing too.

    Bigger picture is career development though.

    Matt O'Riley had on paper, better offers than here. But he said himself he chose here as he can develop, learn what it takes to play for a massive club with huge expectation to win every week.

    He might go to bed with the covers off in 35 degree heat every night at Espanyol but he won't have that same level of expectation and could very easily slip into mediocrity as another EPL prospect continually bouncing from club to club. Will be so much harder for him to stick out over there. Backs against the wall 75% of games.

    There's a lot to be said for 1-2 years at a club like Celtic, PSV, Brugge even.
